What travellers are saying
- LouBeeLou33 contributionsFor a first time visitor to Namibia, a visit to this museum is worthwhile. It covers a wide range of topics: the landscape, the peoples, political and social history, mineral and natural riches.
Some of the older exhibit captions could do with updating/modernising, but there are newer exhibits such as the information on uranium mining which is well done.
An exhibit on modern post-colonial political structure would be useful.Written 2 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can get very close (but not too close!) - definitely close enough to get some great close ups of their faces. Like everyone says, boy does it stink though! I wouldn’t necessarily recommend coming all the way here unless you already plan on driving up the Skeleton Coast, unless you’re deeply passionate about seals, but it’s a must do if you’re passing by.Written 13 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sherpa594204453245 contributionsGreat place, delicious food. Book in advance as it gets too full. Nice beach view and a must see when in Swakund.Written 5 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Dewald RCape Town Central, South Africa2,629 contributionsDune 7 is a must-visit if you are in the Swakopmund-Walvis Bay area as it is an iconic and beautiful natural wonder to behold. The climb itself isn't too strenuous if you take it slow and start at the longer side from the left of the Dune. It is definitely worth it when you reach the top and are able to take in the amazing views of the surrounding area. It is good to note that there is an entrance fee now for all visitors, even if they don't plan on climbing the dune. When I visited, the fee was N$ 100 per person for those from SADC countries, but I have to say it has contributed to the overall safety of the area. If you aren't planning on climbing the Dune you can still take in it's beauty from the parking area outside the gate. I was however disappointed with the overall cleanliness of the area. The area at ground level of the Dune was dirty with lots of small litter spread around, and the bathrooms were dirty as well. The staff were also very lacklustre. They weren't very helpful or friendly and gave the impression that they didn't really want to be there. Given that an entrance fee is now being charged, I think the staff could do a better job of keeping the area clean. Overall, I would have given Dune 7 a 3 out of 5, however I always enjoy visiting and climbing it and definitely think it is still a must visit.Written 27 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - YolandaBurgerBoksburg, Gauteng, South Africa22 contributionsVery interesting drive from Swakopmund to view the Welwitchia planes. I'm leaving this review so people will know that you can not drive all the way there without a 4x4 vehicle. The dirt road is really bad after the moon landscape turnoff, and we had to turn around without reaching the final destination. However, we did see some plants next to the road before we had to turn around. We really tried to keep going for as far as possible, but it was just too dangerous as the car was shaking so much. Rather use a guided tour company if you do not have a 4 wheel drive vehicle. By the way, we easily reached the moon landscape viewpoints, and even the oasis, without any problems.
Permit was easy to get in Swakopmund, took less than 5 minutes.Written 20 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It does have some good bird sightings with pelicans and flamingos flying right over you, and it does have a good few souvenir type shops and restaurants. Not really worth a special visit though only come if here anyway for the cruises.Written 31 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dianedinkyDunfermline, UK791 contributionsWell, it's a lagoon area...and it has flamingos. Not much more to say!
There is a car park and you can then walk to be quite close to the birds. Was especially nice to be able to see them in flight.Written 31 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We were treated extremely good, they showed us the winery and explained all the details how they make the wine and brandies.
The wine testing was very interesting and the food was great and prepared with love.
Definitely a place to go if you pass by Omaruru.Written 6 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Somewhat surprised to see snakes of other parts of the world. Would have preferred to see more reptiles from Namibia. Overall an interesting experience after having crossed the desert without seeing any reptileWritten 16 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - thistle-do-nicelyKilmarnock, UK632 contributionsMy wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and short camel ride. The owner, an elderly lady, was entertaining in her eccentricity, although the four girls who arrived at the same time as us, found her to be a little too much and left.
Well worth a short visit, and sitting on a camel was an experience!!!Written 11 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
