Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- GrandmaJulie R2 contributionsWe love Dickson Mounds. My grandkids, especially the 4 year old just love visiting there. We love the history aspect and getting in touch with our native American roots. I do want to mention that Tripadvisor has incorrect times and days listed. Please call in advance to assure they are open. I know for sure they close at 4 pm NOT 5, and that they are closed on Mondays. Currently the second floor is under construction (our favorite part of the museum), the theater and the burial chamber are closed 'due to Covid'. I am given to understand that since they are state funded, the Gov. mandated that those areas be closed. :( So for now, the inside is basically a 15 minute stop. However, the outside buildings, grounds, and playground are all still accessible as well as new hiking trails. During summer & fall we love to visit Dickson Mounds and Orchard Hill (just down the road) back to back. Great way to spend an afternoon.Written 11 November 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ann TPekin, IL662 contributionsI always come here for the Bella Apples. I think better than Honey crisp. Pick up some cookies and cinnamon rolls. Very good. Not sure if this happens everyday, but if they are grilling out doors, the ribeye is delicious.
Kids play area with lots of activities. Smaller orchard so parking is limited. Only negative thing I can say.Written 23 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Along the way, it showcases Illinois' natural wonders, wildlife, scenic views, quaint towns and historical sites. Start in Ottawa, at the confluence of the Illinois and Fox Rivers, site of a Lincoln-Douglas Debate in Washington Square and the Ottawa Scouting Museum, where the Boy Scouts of America began. At Starved Rock State Park, you'll be mesmerized by 13 miles of trails twisting through 18 glacier-carved canyons, including Aurora Canyon and Lover's Leap, that feature 14 waterfalls. LaSalle, once an economic crossroads where the Illinois & Michigan Canal met the Illinois River, is home to the Illinois & Michigan Canal Heritage Area. Princeton is home to the Lovejoy Homestead, an important station on the Underground Railroad in Illinois, which opened as a museum in 1972 and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1997. It also is home to one of Illinois' five remaining covered bridges and one of the state's first wind farms. Peoria, one of Illinois' largest cities, was the first European settlement in the state. Visit Caterpillar and its museum, Peoria Zoo and Wildlife Prairie State Park. Whatever you do, don't miss a drive along the 2.52-mile stretch of Grandview Drive, overlooking the bluffs of Illinois Valley, that Theodore Roosevelt described as the "world's most beautiful drive" after his 1910 visit. Next stop is Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge, which covers 4,500 acres and features five types of habitats and hiking trails and is home to a massive population of waterfowl. It also is one of the area's best spots to see pelicans or even a bald eagle. Finally, visit Havana, named for the Cuban capital. Did you know that 65 percent of the nation's pumpkins are grown in this region? Also hike at Riverfront Park and don't miss an opportunity to visit New Salem Historic Site, where Abraham Lincoln lived for several years before moving to nearby Springfield to begin his career as a lawyer.Written 29 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Darrell D31 contributionsNo selection of beer or hard liquor. Staff was apologetic and I believe they were trying their best but the for sale sign in the window was a give away. They are apparently going broke!!Written 21 May 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
