Some of the park still closed due to Hurricane damage. Most of the Sand Trail is still open with a small section closed. We were able to hike approx 4 miles. A good portion of the trail is sand. Some of the trail along the water so a pretty view.

Nice paved road and quiet for bike riding, but probably not a long distance of riding to be had overall.

They offer a Junior Ranger program for kids. Be sure to ask about this in the Florida state parks (and other states as well). Kids can earn badges, pins and patches. Our dog participates and he earned his Junior Ranger pin today. :)

    $6/car admission

Tarklin State Park is 3 miles away. Can easily do both parks in the same day. End the day with a 6'ish mile drive to Perdido Key for dinner at the "famous" Florabama. This was our agenda for a day during our week visit to Pensacola Beach. Made for a great day trip approx 45 min from PB!

They have limited tours available so be safe and make early reservations. Volunteers are very knowledgeable and enjoyed interacting with the guests. 177 steps to the top and the view was great. We even got to see a Navy trainer fly by when we were at the top.

Johnson Beach is a great place to get away from the crowds. It is a national park, so admission is required. If you are military or a veteran, that fee is waived. They also limit the amount of people who can enter; this helps with crowding. It's the only beach I frequent.

Our trip to watch the Blue Angles in Pensacola Beach from the boat was just great, the Crew and Captain did a GREAT job . but the parking was just a joke not the fault of PBC but of FOO FOO committee. I've just posted these email to them.

my Email to FOO FOO committee:

I'm letting you know that I purchased, 2 tickets on Pensacola Bay Cruises (start at 1pm) for the Blue Angles show on 11/6/2021.they told me we had FREE parking with our tickets. So my wife and I and 2 friends went to Pensacola from Orange Beach at 1030 am arriving at about 1110am..I told the parking person on the street I had tickets and where should i park. He directed me straight ahead (West Cedar st) , Well that took us to Commendencia st parking . The lady there stated it not FREE it will be $20.00 but pointed towards Pensacola Bay Cruises building and stated that all free parking is there if i want. So I turned around and not one place was open. Why you ask, well ! Every vendor for FooFoo Fest was taking up 3 to 6 parking spaces for their trailers and then one or two for each of their vehicles and how do i know this, the STICKER in the window stating VENDOR !So after driving around the lots, I had to pay for my parking.. NOT the VENDORs, who made money at the FOO FOO mess, but me who paid for a tickets on Pensacola Bay Cruises !
I'm not sure PENSACOLA FOO FOO committee gave any hoot about the visitors just the MONEY shame on you.

The fort is a well-curated restored historic site. The visitor's center was closed when we were there, but the brochure and historic markers filled in the information.

If you are in the area, stop! This is such a hidden gem. When we first arrived, I had no idea what to expect. You are given a cup of food and taught how to feed the birds. The birds are beautiful and you can't beat the experience for the price. I would go back here if ever in the area.

We will often visit museums when we travel and we like the living history museums. This one is a small example. There were a few people dressed in costumes of the period but during our visit they were conducting school field trips. That does happen in May.

We found parking about a city block from the Tivoli House where we purchased our admissions. Our next stop was the Museum of Commerce which features shops from the early 20th century and several carriages. Across the street you find the Museum of Industry with a history of the various industries around Pensacola…fishing, railroads, forestry and sawmills. The History Museum is located a couple of blocks away. This building has exhibits on three floors and was the only one where we showed our admission slip. Be sure to visit the Trader Jon on the second floor.

We did not have enough time to visit the houses that from the outside are nicely restored. However, admissions are good for several days if you plan to stay in the area.

There was a lot to do downtown. There was a fruit and trinket market on Saturday that had a nice vareirty of things. A lot of neat shops and bars as well as a place called Jacksons Steakhouse that was excellent

This is my favorite area of the panhandle. The beaches are lovely, the atmosphere is mostly peaceful, but gets busier on the weekends.

This state park was closed in November of 2020 due to damage from Hurricane Sally, but just the parking and road access areas. We walked Perdido Key from another access point and walked across this gorgeous State Park. The beachfront is very wide with the soft white sand that is perfect for walking and playing. When the park is open, there are two places to park and walk across to the beach. A lovely less crowded area of Perdido to enjoy!

We went to the beach our first day in Pensacola. So easy to find a parking space and the beach-going atmosphere is top-notched! Everyone is so friendly!!

How often is graffiti encouraged? Well, here it is, on a railroad bridge, with ever-changing work. In fact, some ladies were adding to it when we were there.
If odd things in America are an attraction to you, this is a fun place to see. It's on 17th Avenue off Bayfront Parkway. If construction is still in progress, then head up 14th Avenue to Wright Street, and turn south on 17th, like we did. There is parking just south of the bridge, on the east side.
Either way, it's a funky respite from the norm.

This park provides a serene place to honor and recognize those that have paid the price for others. It has been well thought out and is nicely maintained.

$3 entry fee/pay on your honor system.

2 trails: 1 is paved/boardwalk to the water. Approx 1.5 miles round trip.

2nd trail is a 7'ish mile loop, but we were unable to complete the loop due to high waters and mud. Some areas we were able to get around it, but finally came to what we considered a dead end with no passible option other than to trek through it. :)

Was able to get approx 3 -4 miles total.

Restroom and picnic table at park entrance.

Big Lagoon State Park is 3 miles down the road. 3-4 miles of hiking on mostly sand trails in that park. Completely different environment. Well worth visiting both parks to experience the difference and can easily do both parks in the same day.

End your day with another 6-7 mile drive to Perdido Key and have dinner/watch the sunset at the "famous" Florabama. We were spending the week in Pensacola Beach and made a day trip (approx 45 min) encompassing both parks and Florabama. Perfect day trip option!

Big Lagoon State Park offers the Junior Ranger program for kids. Be sure to ask about it. Kids complete activities at different state parks to earn badges, pins and patches. Our dog participates and earned his patch and pin this week too! Tarklin Bark does not have a Park Ranger, but if you visit Big Lagoon Park their Ranger has the stamp for the kids Junior Ranger Passport book.

Park is dog friendly.....on leash of course.
