Swim/kayak the ocean or bay (there are rentals at the harbor, where you can park your bike), and then cycle back.
It was about 9 miles from the park to the beach and we rode back as well...so it was really nice...kids only complained of sore behinds, but that's expected.
Carlsbad Flower Fields Carlsbad 11.8 km away

Our grandkids loved Santa’s Playground, a whimsical collection of historic play houses and giant mushrooms rescued from Santa’s Village amusement park in Lake Arrowhead when it closed in the 90’s.
For tourists who want something besides the typical amusement parks and beaches, if the flower fields are open they provide a respite from the crowds and an opportunity to relax and smell the roses.

A new visitors' center provides an overview of the lagoon's history, and it is well worth a visit, but we have enjoyed just walking along the trail and absorbing nature.

Really nice park.
There's a small grassy, tree lined park on premises in case you don't want to skate or scooter and choose to either picnic, watch, or hangout while your kids play.

We are a military family and the tickets we are able to purchase from the base include all “parks”.
It's a nice addition to the park hopper ticket.

Of course, you can always drop the family off with all your beach stuff and park on the other side of the train tracks and walk back, even on the busiest of days, so you can always find a way to enjoy this beach.
There is RV parking close to the beach and also on the other side of the harbor just off Carmelo Drive.... you could park there for free and walk underneath the tunnel and past the harbor to reach the beach.
