- Fredric JohnDubai, United Arab Emirates243 contributionsFrom Little Petra, this is where the journey should begin. The Monastery has a lot of underrated viewpoints unlike The Treasury where they closed some of the hiking trails in order to avoid a lot of tourists.
It is recommended to take a photo on the pea shaped rock and there are some higher spots to visit to just be careful going up and down as it was surrounded by stones and rocks around.Written 6 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. His name is Ibrahim Salama and he was amazing.
I had such a good time with him and 100% would not hesitate to go again with him if I visit Jordan again.
Not only did he take me to all the places that I wanted but added some on the way. He gave a lot of recommendations and he helped me with my shopping.
Overall he is a very nice respectable man, is very honest and hard-working. He treated me like his daughter even though he had just met me.
Don't hesitate to go with him, you will not regret it!!!Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The rock formations are photo worthy.Written 25 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Jeffry bEssendon, Australia14,153 contributionsThe Theater is carved into the mountain at the foot of the High Place of Sacrifice. The Theatre was rebuilt by the Romans. It is the only theatre in the world that is built into the living rock The High Place of Sacrifice is place of worship on the mountain plateau. You can climb to the rock and be rewarded to an expansive view of the ancient city of Petra below. The High Place of Sacrifice was used for significant religious ceremonies.Written 16 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Fredric JohnDubai, United Arab Emirates243 contributionsIt was suggested by the locals that I should start from Little Petra going to the Monastery.
There's a free shuttle bus located behind the Petra Museum that you can avail and find the ALPHA bus in order to avoid scams.
Little Petra is a short walk but don't get lost like me and hike all the way through.Written 6 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The four tombs face the main path of the center of the city of Petra. Some of the tombs are quite grandiose. The tombs are remarkable for the swirls of color in the living rock. The tombs are certainly worth exploring, if only to compare the Nabatean and classical architectural styles.Written 16 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - S Cherrington11 contributionsWe booked onto a class at Petra Kitchen that immediately followed our day at Petra. Petra Kitchen is situated a five minute walk from the visitor centre and was very easy to find. We were treated to some lemon juice upon arrival and were surprised to find that it was only the two of us booked onto our session. We were impressed that despite a small turn out, the class still ran. We are thankful that it did, as the food we cooked under the supervision of head-chef Reda was the best we ate in Jordan!
The meal consisted of Soup (Lentil), Cold Mezza (Baba ghanoush, Fattoush, Tahini salad), Hot Mezza (Qalayet bandoura) and a main course of Maqluba. Reda was personable and knew his stuff, we were given regular tips on ways to effectively prepare the ingredients and improve our cooking techniques.
Once we had cooked and eaten, we were treated to tea and dessert and provided with printouts of all the recipes that we had cooked during the session. We had a fantastic time and easily recommend to anyone who enjoys food! A highlight of our holiday!Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I love how the people who discovered the items inside. I also learned how the Roman influences the structures of how Nabateans are living from the past. It was an amazing experience. I was just bothered by fellow tourists who’s disrespectful and talking loudly inside.
It is also the site (behind the Petra Museum exit) where you can take a small shuttle going to Little Petra.Written 6 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jeffry bEssendon, Australia14,153 contributionsThis Byzantine Church, which is largely intact, has stunning mosaics that are well preserved, on both sides of the aisle. Many of the building materials have been recycled from earlier monuments from Petra. The church was a significant place of worship in Petra. Around the end of the 5th century, the church was badly damaged by an earthquake, possibly followed by a fire. However, the church is remarkably well preserved with the mosaics and other features well worth inspection.Written 16 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jeffry bEssendon, Australia14,153 contributionsThe Great Temple is a collection of buildings, constructed by the Nabateans towards the end of the first century BC. The Temple has a number of sacred enclosures. The construction of the Temple indicates that the Nabateans combined their native stone working skills with classical influences. The Temple is 18 meters tall (60 feet). It must have been an impressive sight at the height of the Nabatean Empire.Written 16 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
