My guide, Sebastian, did an outstanding job explaining the culture, history and anthropology of the island and of there Rapa Nui people. Rapa Nui himself, his passion for his people - on both a personal and a scholarly level - made every stop a fascinating window into the story of the island. I can't recommend KavaKava highly enough.

We took a full day tour with Sebastián. It was brilliant!

    The Guide

Sebastián is from Rapa Nui and so was able to combine the factual history aspects of the island with enthusiasm and knowledge of the current culture. He knew everything about each of the sites we visited. On top of that, he is involved with the restoration and preservation on the island so gave us more background knowledge on the places we visited.

He answered every question we had and showed us photos and pictures on a kindle as we went along (it was great to use the kindle rather than a phone or tablet so the sun didn't created a glare - just an indication that he'd actually thought about the guest experience rather than just going through the motions of his usual tour).

    The tour

We got picked up from our hotel in a 4x4 at 9am and travelled around the island for the day. It's worth taking some snacks for the car as it's a pretty full on tour from 9am until 3pm. Take water and sunscreen as well.

We told Sebastián that we only had one day on the island and he immediately adapted the tour to cover the sites he thought would be most important and most interesting. We were very grateful for this as we would have missed out on visiting Orongo otherwise.

We started at a restored traditional village. We were the first ones there - even before the staff. I was a bit skeptical of this part of the tour but it laid the foundations for the entire day so was important to see - for me, that's the difference between having a professional tour guide and doing a DIY tour.

We then visited Rano Raraku, Ahu Tongariki, Anakena Beach, Ahu Nau Nau and Orongo (in that order). See my photos for which site is which.

We had plenty of time at each of them - not rushed and not bored / waiting around either.

For me, the highlight was Rano Raraku and it was great to be one of the first people there.

    The customer service

KavaKava tours were great when booking the tour. Alejandra is very responsive and helpful. We asked Sebastián to take some photos of us during our tour and he was able to send these on within about 5 minutes of us asking when we got home!

    Summary

Our experience on Easter Island was fantastic. If you are wondering whether to get a private tour then I would recommend doing so and I cannot recommend KavaKava tours enough. They were brilliant!

Iaorana! I had inquired about a full day tour with the neighboring tour company and was referred to Easter Island Travel because the guides can explain sites in English better than they could. The Agents spoke very good English and arranged pickup at my Room. Franco was an excellent guide. I do Jeep Tours myself and was very impressed. We visited many site on the island, Franco was a wealth of information about Rapa Nui, and lunch was included. The van used had AC, too. I would highly recommend this company for booking tours.

We used Green Island tours for our Stargazing experience. We were picked up from our home stay residence and transported to the office for a comprehensive talk on Polynesian history; drinks and cake were provided. A small group of us, then took a mini bus to the Observation site. It was quite a clear night, but to be honest, Ive been lucky enough to sleep under the stars in many countries and this wasn't really any different. Obviously, I wasn't expecting different star views, so in that respect the experience was great and quite romantic. We then moved onto Anakena beach where the moonlit views were very atmospheric. We got back to our bed at about 2:00am, it was an interesting night and great to see the moi under the stars.

My family of 4 did a customized 2 and 1/2 day tour of Easter Island with Easter Island Travel. Our tour was very well organized and had an extremely knowledgeable/flexible/punctual/courteous local guide/driver that made our trip on the island extremely memorable. We were provided with food bags from time to time, which was a big pleasant surprise. We were also hosted for lunch on 2 days in the premises of the travel agency’s owner’s home with true Rapa Nui hospitality, which was the greatest surprise. I would certainly very highly recommend Easter Island Travel to any traveler visiting the island for any kind of itinerary.

My wife and I had the good fortune of taking three different tours with Easter Island Travel in February of 2020. The first two tours covered the North and West highlights and the South and East Highlights. Franco was our guide and he was excellent. He was proud of his Rapa Nui ancestry and explained in great detail the history of the island and the special culture that led to the building and destruction of the Moai statutes. These were full day tours and each day we had the pleasure of a home cooked lunch served at the Hanga Roa residence of the tour company owner, Alicia Ika, and her husband, Marcus. Alicia, herself of Rapanui descent, is an accomplished dancer and singer/songwriter. She put on a lovely vocal performance at the end of one of our lunches. They treated my wife and I like family. Our third tour was another all day tour, this time covering hidden gems rarely seen by tourists. Maeva was our guide and she traces her lineage back to the first king of Rapa Nui. Again her knowledge of the island and its culture was truly amazing. Rapa Nui is such a special place and pictures don't do it justice. You have to go and see it for yourself and I highly recommend Easter Island Travel.

I went to Easter Island 2 weeks ago. I did a tour with this company because I've heard they were one of the best ones on the island. Now, I have no doubt it is true. All the has been very professional and friendly. The person who attended me at the office was Paulina, who was very informative and took the time to explain to me all about the tours. The guide of my tour was Kava Pakarati, a very friendly, spontaneous and wisdom person. He was born in Rapanui so he was able to answer all my questions in all the different spots that we have visited as Ana te Pahu, Rano Kau, Ahu Akivi, among others. I totally recommend going with this company to discover Rapanui!

We recently took Green Island Tours' Moai Monuments excursion. It was a private tour with Yoyo as our guide. He was very enthusiastic and helpful, full of information about the island and flexible and accomodating with our pace of travel, since we were visiting with our children. Highly recommended!

This was the best thing I've done in travel all over South America. Rapa Nui is beautiful. Guides are smart, know what they're doing, and know their history. I'll be back :-)

Booked the sunset horseback riding tour. Tonchi came to pick me up around the agreed time and we went to the stables which was about 20 mins drive from town.

Tonchi helped me get on the horse and off we went. I had rode horses before during holidays but previous experience is not required, as long as you can stay calm and relaxed, it's all good. We rode to the highest hill Maunga Terevaka. Got off there and had some to chill out there. It was dark when we started heading back, it was my first time horseriding at night, it was full moon that day though and I could see everything quite clearly. Tonchi was friendly and reassuring.

2 small suggestions though, first I was the only one who booked the tour that day and was grateful that they didn't cancel it. Tonchi brought her mother along, I really don't mind this and thought it was sweet for him to take his mom for a ride, but it got a little awkward as it felt a bit like I was intruding on their outing. The other thing was we started a bit late, I was there when his van came and we also started right away after arriving the stables, but the sun had set by the time we reached the peak, wish we have started a little earlier so that we could catch the sunset properly.

The horses are gentle and well taken care of. It was very tranquil riding through the forest and enjoyed the experience.

Our tour guide packed a lot into the drive and walkabout on Easter Island. Our driver/tour guide Nicholas, did a superb job driving and explaining what we were seeing and providing historical and cultural perspectives on the spectacular sites we visited. We got to see all the main locations that we had hoped to visit and got significant background on each site and specific details on the historical significance of each location. Our guide was clearly interested and well informed on the subjects. Well worth the time and cost.
