I visited this museum in conjunction with a trip to Girona. Combining a day trip from Barcelona to Girona and Figueras for the Dali Museum is most optimal use of time.

You can take a high speed train direct from Barcelona Sants station direct to Figueras. However it will stop at Figueras-Villafante station which is at least a 25 minutes walk from the town.

I stop at Girona first in the morning - which was a great stop - then went on to Figueras via the local train which will stop much closer to the city Center.

There is nothing to do in Figueras other than to make a beeline straight to the museum.

You have to experience the museum for yourself. The courtyard and main hall are jaw dropping. You will spend at least 30 minutes there. Another 20 exhibits and rooms await.

Tip: download the Dali app and you will be guided and many of the exhibits will be explained. You need the app because there isn’t any explanations accompanying the exhibits.

As you exit don’t forget to visit the Dali Jewels room. Spend at least 15 minutes there.

I managed to compete the entire experience within 2 hours. For most people this is enough. Then it’s a 15 mins walk back to the station to catch the train back to Barcelona.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see this if you are in the area. We had an amazing guide who took us around the huge site in a classic Land Rover. His knowledge was amazing as was his English, lucky for us as we don’t speak Spanish. His enthusiasm was infectious. If you are brave enough he’ll show you the underground water caverns too! A fabulous tour thank you.

A very nice museum, not big but with a lot of toys from different times. A bit disappointed that the train model was partially working. Nice to see the toys development

An exciting adjunct to the Museum, it was great to see the exquisite creations. Delicately fabricated in precious stone and precious metal.

An exquisite selection is displayed in subdued lighting that emphasises the intricate beauty of each creation.

Dedicated to the innovative and world famous artist and his wife, it’s a pleasant relaxing space. Numerous sculptures adorn the area and catch the attention.

We relaxed for a while at one of the cafes and enjoyed a little refreshment.

In the city are numerous public sculptures and monuments, many by Dali himself. Prime of these are his reflections on Isaac Newton and his Memorial to the Catalan Philosopher Francesc Pujols,

But there is one Monument dedicated to Dali by the renowned architect Oscar Tusquets Blanca, who was born in Barcelona in 1941.

A long time collaborator with Dali, in 2002 he created a cypress tree fountain in tribute. At 24 metres in height it celebrates Dali’s frequent use of this tree in his works.

Some church elements date back to the X-XI centuries. The architectural ensemble of the Church of St. Peter truly embodied the Catalan Gothic. In the middle of the XIV century, it was decided to build a new Gothic cathedral on the orders of Peter IV. A century later, the first organ appeared in it, and construction was completed only by the middle of the 15th century. Over time, Figueres grew, he began to require a large cathedral. But until the end of the XVIII century, this issue was not resolved. The reconstruction of the church began only in 1744.

Way nicer downtown and ramblas area than I expected. Some higher end stores, nicer restaurants. I had overlooked figueres as a town, since I was going for Dalí, but I will plan to return.

Albeit under renovation, it was still interesting to see where it all began for the great artist. In May 1904 Salvador Dali entered the world here.

Designed by the architect Josep Azemar the attractive house was built in 1898. Dali’s family lived here till 1912 and his father had an office on the ground floor.

Their move wasn’t very far, to a neighbouring abode on the same street.

We stumbled across this when visiting the Dali Museum and found we also got free entry with our Dali Museum ticket. The staff were very helpful and they had an exhibition in part of the museum about the history of the famous chefs and restaurants that developed in this area over the past 60 years. Some fascinating memorabilia and stories in this exhibition.

A marvellous melange of elements is a joyous homage to the prodigious writer and philosopher Francesc Pujols.

Dali was long fascinated with Pujols philosophy and had a long trajectory with him, including translating into French a book Pujols wrote in defence of Antoni Gaudí.

Dali painted a tribute to Pujol that he named Hyparxiological Sky and produced a book based on his conversations with the writer.

So unsurprisingly this splendid monument created by Dali arose as a further honour.
