We confirmed beforehand that we could find our way to the train station where the tour departs from. As it was, the metro was quiet at that time of morning and we found the bus without issue - all the tours to Meteora are using buses at present as the train line has been closed since about Aug 2023. We were told that the new highway had only recently opened, taking an hour of the travel time - as it was, it took from just before 8am to about 10:30pm to get there and back, around 8 & 1/2 hours of which was getting there and back.

The bus trip there was uneventful, with a break around half way (both directions) at an OK roadside cafe used by travellers. Once we arrived in the Meteora area we were broken into smaller groups of around 9-10, taken for lunch and then off with a mini-bus and guide who took us around the sites, explained some of the history and gave advice. We had paid to have the included lunch - this was a wise option as the lunch was prior to normal lunch times in Greece and we may have struggled getting in to the few cafes/tavernas open at that time. Local guide and driver were excellent.

A long day, but we had good weather with fine views so thoroughly enjoyed this world-class site.

We enjoyed our trip from Athens to Meteora. Our trip included a nice 4-star hotel in the town of Kalabaka, two guided tours in Meteora, and one self-guided tour in Delphi. The sunset guided tour in Meteora was our favorite... we had a wonderful guide Katerina (Kate) who explained the landscape, history, and spiritual significance of Meteora. Katerina was friendly, well-informed, and funny. As a local, her personal connection to the town was evident in the stories she shared. We also loved our bus driver, Kostas, who went above and beyond taking great photos of the people in our group. We enjoyed the minibus tour to three monasteries, which was led by a guide named Vasilis who was an expert historian.

Note for future visitors: 1. We highly recommend staying in Kalabaka downtown and not a hotel outside of it. 2. We initially chose the hiking tour, but switched to minibus tour because it visits three monasteries instead of just one. We booked through Get Your Guide, and this distinction was not made clear in the description so something to be aware of!

Our guide Evan was so considerate, knowledgeable, kind and safe. He taught us so much about the local plants and geology of the rock formations. We really enjoyed his tour and his guidance. Thank you so much.

Absolutely breath-taking. The scenery is hard to believe. It looks incredible in pictures, but this does nothing to prepare you for the sheer scale and size of the rock formations. Then, trying to work out how the Monasteries and Nunneries were built on them, several hundreds of years ago, leaves your mind agog. It is sometimes a bit of a trek to actually go inside some of them, but it is definitely worth it. The exhibitions answer some of your questions about the landscape and the building.

It can get a little busy with tour buses, so I'd suggest staying nearby and planning early/late visits. The opening times and day for each monastery vary, so plan carefully if you intend to see them all.

100% recommend! Our driver arrived on time at the hotel. The ride was very comfortable. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the visit, and was blown away by the beauty of Meteora. Our driver chose a great restaurant for lunch, and was a perfect guide for our tour.
    Don’t hesitate, book now!

    Amazing experience.
The organization was great since the tickets send by email to the itinerary explanation.
Tours and guides were great on the explanations given.
The hotel was fine. A little old for a 4 stars but the room had great views of the mountains.
I stayed at kalambak but i believe saying at kastraki would have been even better as it is smaller and more beautiful.
    I truly recommend this trip.

The views were stunning. Tour guide was really helpful and knowledgeable. Answered your questions. I joined this trip because I wanted knowledge on Meteora from the locals. Price was great for 4 to 5 hours trip.

Amazing experience, the driver and tour in general was 10/10. I highly recommend getting this tour not just for the beauty of Meteora but also for the convenience and knowledge a private tour brings. Our driver was very accommodating which was very important for us since we travel with a 4 year old. Was truly an amazing experience

    Wonderful!
Initially I wasn't sure about signing up for the 3 day Meteora and Delphi 3 day tour. After spending time on a family holiday in Crete I had sent my husband and daughter back home as I had more time off work. It was a chunk of money to spend out of my holiday budget, but was worth every penny.

After arriving from Athens into Kalambaka and being dropped off at Hotel Kaikis (really friendly staff) I had enough time for an impromptu visit to the Natural history and mushroom museum. This is an old school museum with lots of stuffed animals, but it was excellently done with grouping representative of the local ecology. Worth checking out the videos of the local birds of prey. Upstairs are models of all the mushrooms found locally, again grouped by ecosystem. Also includes info about uses and mythology. Really enjoyable and a good set up for the hiking option I chose for day 2 of the tour.
I got back in time for the sunset tour.
We were in a small group which was good. The sunset tour included far more than I'd expected, with views of most of the monasteries, a history of the use of the unique geology by hermits leading eventually to the monasteries, a visit to one monastery, and an old church partially built out of a preexisting temple of Apollo (fascinating). The monasteries provide a wrap around skirt if it is needed (no charge). Sunset was partially obscured by a cloud, but the colours were lovely. Apostoles our tour guide was very knowledgeable, funny, and patient with me getting far too excited and wanting to ask all the questions in one go. Ares was our driver and I thought is was very nice that the god of battles took time out of his busy schedule to get us around safely.
    And I saw a tortoise!

The next day in a different small group we had our hiking tour. I was a bit worried that my fitness wouldn't be good enough, but for the most part the walking was not too challenging although the temperature was on my side in April. The steps down later in the walk was the worst bit for me.
Ares the driver got us to our location and Evan was our tour guide. He was very friendly and he was very knowledgeable about the geology and nature of the area.
We saw many different orchids (April seems to be a good time for flowers).
We also saw wild boar wallow (the stuffed boar in the museum was a good reference).
This was a highlight. The area is truly beautiful and this is a great way to see it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We also saw the inside of another monastery.
After being dropped off in Kalambaka I had lunch with one of my fellow trekkers and then back to my hotel for a well deserved rest that afternoon.

The next day it was time for my transfer to Delphi via Thermopylae. Imagine my surprise when it was just me and my lovely driver Stolos. We chatted about families, life in Greece, and the botany and wildlife of the area. All whole driving through some of the most stunning mountain scenery I have ever seen. The trip was worth it just for this.
Stolos told me there is a mushroom festival in September which is a great reason for me to plan a repeat trip!

At Delphi I was given my instructions to get the KTel bus. I went to the museum, saw the main site and the temple of Athena at the bottom. I rushed a bit, but in reality I had plenty of time. The ruins and museum were beautiful, but I have to say the mountains are still my highlight of the day.
Getting the bus was easy and it didn't take long to get back to Athens.

Apologies to everyone's name that I've got wrong.

Vasilissis was a great tour guide and we had an amazing time touring the monasteries. It was nice to have the bikes since it got really crowded, we were able to get to the front of the monasteries and pass the cars and tour buses.

When in doubt go for it. We had a great and breathtaking experience. Even for the people who might find it scary, the actual experience isn't scary at all! It's very calming and beautiful.

This was an awe inspiring experience. Absolutely beautiful. Dimitris was very well informed and gave us lots of great info that we wouldn't have otherwise known on our own. Dimitris really went above and beyond when we got to the first monastery and I realized that I didn't have any Euros in cash to pay for the admission. He drove me back down into town to stop at an ATM...my bank card was struggling with an international transaction. So he gave me 20 euros to make sure I could get into the monastery with my family. Luckily once we got back to town at the end of the tour I was able to get him paid back along with a tip. His extra service and hospitatality was really amazing.

A fulfilling tour! The sights were amazing! Pictures do not do any justice to the sights that you see. You have to see them in person to truly appreciate them. My tour guide, Michael, is knowledgeable and has a great personality! It was very easy to book the tour as Frank is very responsive. I highly recommend this tour and I will do it again as soon as I can.
