PROS: idyllic location with trails and looked like there were boat rentals.
CONS: not sure it is open to swimming

PROS: The downtown district is organized around the Court House "park" and makes for a pretty picture. The shops are diverse enough with lots of eateries for every taste. The parking was adequate and the area was very walk-able and felt safe.
CONS: The "touristy" shops can easily proliferate which would destroy the uniqueness of this town. I hope they keep that in check.

Just outside of town - lake is low, but offers great views and hiking. Offers great picnic areas and parking.

PROS: reasonable entry fee, beautiful grounds with walkways, the rose garden has the most fabulous aromas wafting from it along with beautiful flowers throughout the grounds. Interesting enough not to be repetitive with several buildings to explore. Easily spend a few hours here and everyone will come away with new respect for the pioneers of the area.
CONS: There is no food available, although there are several places nearby. I always check out the gift shop of any museum I visit; this one didn't have much and was overpriced. Unfortunately, the docent at the gift shop followed me around as though I might steal something and I ended up just leaving the shop without purchasing anything..

Set up an animal encounter as a Christmas gift for my 6 year old. Molly was easy to work with and obviously cares for each of the animals. Our whole family loved the visit. Steven the skunk was adorable! We spent about 2 hours walking around. It wasn’t busy on a week day and we loved seeing all the rescued animals. We finished our visit with the afternoon bear feeding. Excellent!
Will definitely return if we come back to the area.

Good for walking around, looking at the variety of shops! Also great historical value here! Lots of people and dogs milling around. Frisbee, picnics, and sunbathing in the grassy area.

We came to see this lake for the fun of it. It was snowing and hailing of which we enjoyed. This is quite a nice set up with lots of play areas for children. It's a smaller reservoir.

Fantastic hike with great views all the way up and down. Left hand side of trail is paved to the top but is steeper than the non paved path to the right. Side trail near the top is worth it for the fantastic view of Prescott and the surrounding area.

They do such a great job here.In 2020,they were very careful about social distancing, but the Rodeo was up to their high standards.

We got lucky and hiked the Thumb Butte area the day before they closed Prescott & Coconino National Forests due to fire danger. They were evicting campers & hikers, and cancelling future camping reservations. Be sure to check before you go.

However, after a long morning hike we could see why -- the ground is cracked and dry, the forest is brown. Prescott desperately needs rain.

Once it reopens, its worth a visit if you like to hike. Lots of trails and unless you insist on doing one of the super popular ones, you won't see many people.

NOTE: There is a $5 day pass fee collected in the parking lots. Be prepared with correct change and a pencil to write with; you must leave your receipt on your dashboard.

PROS: This is a well down square that feels like a park. There are benches, shade trees, grass to sit on, sidewalks and it is visible from four sides of the shopping areas. Events are hosted here often. Every town should have this feature!
CONS: an ice cream vendor cart would add just that extra touch.

The variety of trails make this the best hike in Prescott. The parking fee is a reasonable $3.00. Take plenty of water.

The Phippen museum has been around for a long time and always showcases quality artwork. A great place to visit and near to local hiking trails.

History & Culture of the Indigenous People of Arizona

The Smoki Museum of American Indian Art and Culture, now The Museum of Indigenous People, in Prescott is well-worth the time to first find it (it’s hidden by a school yard, down a narrow little street), then spend time there. In October, I got my chance to spend a few hours there, and it was worth the time.

We were in Prescott for some business meetings for my wife, and I had several days to explore. I started my morning at the Smoki Museum.

The architecture is excellent, in an understated way. It is Yavapai/Hopi “pueblo,” and was built in 1935, as part of the CWA program.

Besides the artifacts and artwork, it has an ongoing program of presentations, classes and educational series, so it offers many different experiences, depending on the date of visit.

On this October morning, there were not additional programs offered, but still very much to see.

I spent about two hours there, but depending on what is being offered, one could well spend much more time. If one has even a passing interest in Native American Culture, the Museum of Indigenous People is a must-see.
