What travellers are saying
- tannietweeCaterham, UK56 contributionsThe gardens are beautiful. So many different textures and the way that they have been sculpted in places leaves you wondering how they did it. The sculptures are magnificent and when you look at them from different angles you get a different interpretation each time. The walk is only only 2km long and it is up and down but it is not too taxing as long as you are mobile. It is a great place to sit and contemplate as the views are just stunning. I would love to go back if we are in the area again.Written 17 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- Ilze d32 contributionsWe stopped at this mall by accident because we needed to buy essential items. We strolled around for a while and we found a barbershop that sold the beard oil my boyfriend uses. It is a big mall with all the essential shops although it can be a bit confusing to walk through for those who are not familiar with its layout.Written 2 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Johny Coetzer1 contributionA beautiful art gallery situated in the heart of Stellenbosch. I'd recommend a visit for anyone interested in seeing some of South Africa's best fine art on display.Written 2 June 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Nicholas HLondon, UK20,576 contributionsThis gallery gets its initials from its full name, the Gallery of the University of Stellenbosch. It's located in what looks as though it may previously have been a church. The main gallery space is a big, high ceilinged room, which is the perfect location for the dresses, masks and undergarments on show, many in vivid colours. The works have been produced by Lizette Chirrime and her sewing circle. There are also other spaces, innuse for this exhibition as working spaces for the artist and her team. The information boards are helpful, providing plenty of background about the exhibition and the artist's influences and motivations. Really enjo0yed both the exhibition and the gallery space.Written 1 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- Lizette MUtrecht, The Netherlands2 contributionsThe Ghetto Art Gallery is a very special gallery on the end of Bird street. When we came in we were heartily greeted by the owner, Bongo. He told us about the ideas behind the gallery: he wants to provide a platform for township artists and build bridges between Stellenbosch and Kayamandi (the township next to Stellenbosch; the location is strategically chosen). In the back of the gallery is a work- and performance space. An artist, Lundi, was working there at the moment we were there. He showed us his works and told us about it, what was very interesting.
I would highly recommend this gallery if you are interested in art and local culture. The owner is very passionate and interesting conversations are assured. The guys also started organising township Art Story Tours, where they walk through Kayamandi following an art route. Besides this they organise open mic nights. These are new concepts so if you're interested ask Bongo about it.Written 16 November 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Robyn WCape Town Central, South Africa378 contributionsThis small gallery is a worthwhile stop. The curator, Gerrit & is assistant, who's name escapes me, are friendly and welcoming. The gallery is small but houses beautifully selected art for the serious collector, or simply to view, appreciate and enjoy.
