Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- JDSouiTampa, FL7,017 contributionsThe views of the city walls are impressive. While walking in/around the city gives perspective it is not until the fortification is seen from distance and an elevated location to offer context to how well fortified the city had to have been. A must seeWritten 22 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- JDSouiTampa, FL7,017 contributionsThis is a quick stop but offers a great view of the city. Arrived in the morning and the sun was rising. This is likely best seen in the afternoon when the sun is in the west offering a great color contrast of the walls. Regardless a fabulous view of the city and its walls.Written 22 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sleepy155Hollywood, FL240 contributionsBeautiful Basilica. A little plain but worth a stop to take a look. The alter area is very pretty. It was built as a tribute to three martyred brothers; Vincent, Sabina, & CristetaWritten 5 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sleepy155Hollywood, FL240 contributionsVery beautiful church. The stained glass work is excellent. Very impressive cathedral. Just to walk around and see all of the intricate details inside and outside was amazing.Written 5 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EC13091Ellicott City, MD1,562 contributionsWe were here in the days leading up to the feast day, so we felt we should see this. It was a nice church but not terribly notable in our opinion, and we didn’t stay long (partly because Mass was about to begin). But if in Avila, you should go. - Kyle & CarrieRochester, NY32 contributionsAbsolutely gorgeous! So peaceful. The church inside is insanely intricate and definitely worth seeing. It has a replica of the altar piece in the Royal Chapel. Paintings covering the walls. Definitely worth a stop. Inexpensive experience for wonderful results.Written 26 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- CaliforniaCalifornia9 contributionsA must for Catholics or anyone interested in the life of Saint Teresa of Avila. Beautiful view of the city walls from outside. Bring euros for the €2 fee or gift shop because they don’t accept credit cards.Written 20 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BrakiWorldTravelerBelgrade, Serbia20,038 contributionsOnly slightly above an hour drive from Madrid is this fairy tale small town.
Main star are the amazingly preserved walls encircling the old town - best of its kind in the world with 87 turrets, around 2,5 km perimeter.
Within them you'll find the oldest Spanish Gothic Cathedral, nice small squares, great bars and restaurants...a very compact and easy to navigate town.Written 1 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The square is big with several bars to sit and cool down after visiting the old town.
Unfortunately, the Church was closed so we couldn't visit it.Written 1 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There is a small but informative museum attached.Written 9 July 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Adrian BPuerto de Mazarron, Spain104 contributionsMy wife and I visited the palace during a visit earlier this month. To some extent, the location combines the attractions of both a museum and an art gallery, with intact (and restored) architectural features from the 16th century, along with the sculptures and paintings of the Italian Guido Caprotti, and members of his family. The palace was empty when we visited, so we could take our time looking at all the various exhibits. It's really quite impressive, and certainly worthy of a visit. We hadn't heard of Caprotti, but we'll certainly be finding out more about his life and times now that we've seen his sculptures and paintings. He has an interesting style, with a vivid use of colour, and an emphasis on eyes when depicting the human form, which he certainly seems to think are the gateways to the soul! Well done to everyone who helped bring about this particular cultural offering - it definitely adds to the overall mix in Avila. Emphatically a must-see destination for those new to 'old' Avila!Written 24 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - sleepy155Hollywood, FL240 contributionsTake the time to walk around the outside of the Avila city wall. There are great views of the city and countryside on all sides of the wall. There are plenty of places to sit and take a rest if needed. Rastro is on the South side.Written 5 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
