What travellers are saying
- AnnefromBelgium111Brussels, Belgium286 contributionsWaruna is indeed 'one of a kind', a self made man, very spiritual and...het speaks really good English ( a bonus). The intimate shop is a labyrinth - treasure trove for real antiques and quirky objects. But beware of what happende to me once: a tuktuk driver nearly refused to bring me there... 'Waruna not good etc, better other shop... "I was laughing in myself as i know Waruna for some years... and indeed, no fat commission there for just dropping off a client (though i am pretty sure some driver who really does an effort will be rewarded properly) .You may be interested to know that he is also the creator of that marvelously pittoresque Samadhi Ayurvedic Center/Resort in a remote valley in the region.Written 6 April 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Emily B4 contributionsPerfect place to search for the perfect souvenir. Chitra and her husband have a beautiful selection of wonderful pieces including some very special rare antiques. They are very helpful, and don't pressure you to purchase. A very enjoyable experience. A must stop if you're passing through Kandy and would like to take home some traditional Sri Lankan art, or souvenirs. Highly recommend. We visited during the power cuts so be sure to take cash if you're heading there early 2022.Written 3 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Hiroki Ikemoto1 contributionPicked up a couple of beautifully crafted pieces that were perfect to take home to Scotland as mementos of travelling Sri Lanka. Chaminda's skill and enthusiasm as an artist is very evident in the craftsmanship of the works that cover the walls of his studio.Written 18 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Dayan CMoratuwa, Sri Lanka25 contributionsA lot of various shops having Sri Lankan and famous international brands.
Even the food court has many varieties.
It is located at heart of the city and convenient to all.
Finding the parking at the car park is bit tiring.Written 27 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - EmilyO'Fallon, IL7 contributionsThis is a fun place to see all the trinkets but you will get ripped off—the salesman are VERY good at haggling. If you REALLY want good tea and spices and the local rate, walk Colombo street between Kotugodella Veediya and Yatinuwara Veediya. That’s where you’ll find the good stuff.Written 23 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Hans M1 contributionMy girlfriend and I have just been to Sri Lanka. We traveled with Isuru for 12 days and it was an amazing experience. We booked our tour very last minute but Isuru was great to ask us what we wanted to see and then give us some possibilities. Despite Sri Lanka’s difficulties right now we had a wonderful tour and we felt completely safe with Isuru as our driver.
We would recommend Isuru to anyone who wants to go to Sri Lanka.Written 25 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Tracy TMilton Keynes, UK4 contributionsI visited here a while ago but i still remember what a great experience I had there. I visited with my husband and my two daughters who all enjoyed how informative and interesting the whole visit was.
We all love stones precious and just ordinary ones and found the educational information interesting. The whole experience has been well thought out. I was lovely to see the gems being worked and also the jewellery designs. It was my birthday and I was treated to a lovely pair of earrings a great finish to the visit. Beautiful quality sapphires.Written 1 March 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Mariana RAmstelveen, The Netherlands63 contributionsThree rooms full of every kind of souvenir you may look for except gems. Really good prices, if you like to search among piles of things, this is paradise, t-shirts are nice, most of them from a great cotton quality, magnets are from wood and made in Sri Lanka.Written 10 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- 505RachManchester, UK4 contributionsA lovely fair trade shop on temple street. An easy to miss doorway opposite the temple, this shop has an upstairs filled with some really great souvenirs, clothing and homeware. We loved it so much we went twice!Written 25 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- AndrewPhnom Penh, Cambodia629 contributionsPossibly the best place in town to hunt for inexpensive souvenirs before you head home. A host of all things Sri Lanka, including tea, t-shirts, mugs etc. as well as some pretty stunning elephants. They also stock a good range of sarongs and scarves and were more than happy to dig in the storeroom for the specific sarong colour I’d been looking for over the past week. They were also happy to put it to one side, so I could come back in a few hours later and pick it up. Superb service :)Written 15 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Naqiya E1 contributionPalitha gets you to all the best bits of the city much quicker than you ever could on foot/in a car. He has lots of suggestions but also listens to exactly what you want and doesn’t waste your time. Highly recommended!Written 13 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Ruud CKursk, Russia74 contributionsA jeweler with a nice exhibition place.
When you visit, realize it is a shop, not a museum. They are there to sell their Stones.
But very informative how the gems were mined. It is worth a visitWritten 11 December 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Tomislav LeopoldZagreb County, Croatia2 contributionsWe booked a round tour for Sri Lanka.I was with my family in Sri Lanka , with guide driver Ranga Senarathna. Thanks Ranga ans Sampath for making it happenWritten 14 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - tourdriver sNegombo, Sri Lanka51 contributionsIt’s is a traditional cultural event continues over more than 2500 years in Sri Lanka. We were experiencing one of the best and attractive
” Randoli” perahera on last day . It is full of Beautiful elephants with more cultural dancers and drummers along with Hindu temples perahera as well . It’s a seasonal event in Kandy in every August . If you come to Kandy in August you must visit . Since many people visits you must book a place. If you book a hotel at the town itself you can watch from there. But you should do a early booking.Written 15 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
