Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Film GNew England1,018 contributionsA charming Portuguese section of Goa, with houses and many, many cafes and bakeries. Wander, stop for a coffee and custard tart, and wander some more. A Must Do in Goa.Written 15 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Shoeb AliBangalore District, India69 contributionsFirst - no matter when you go there, church is closed for general public. Members who attend mass take the route from the adjacent building. so it doesnt matter its lunch, dinner or breakfast time. not sure why people just write what they think right and misguide other travellers. This has happened post pandemic
Secondly - There is no "official" parking nearby. if you get one then you are lucky OR hire a taxi whose driver will wait for you in nearby street.
traffic can be an issue in nearby streets.

- Film GNew England1,018 contributionsAn impressive church -- to a point. Not as richly decorated as I had imagined. - Avirup Guha RoyKolkata (Calcutta), India94 contributionsStanding high up on the Monte Santo (Holy Hill) at Velha Goa (Old Goa), the Church was Built by the Augustinian friars who arrived in Goa in 1587… upon completion it was recognized as one of 3 great Augustinian churches in the Iberian world, the other two being the Basilica of the Escorial, Western Madrid and St. Vincente de Fora, Lisbon…
Another fascinating aspect of this UNESCO World Heritage Site is the fact that the relics of St. Ketevan, Queen of Kakheti (Eastern Georgia) were brought to Goa by Augustinian monks after her death and were kept interred in this Complex, which later became abandoned. The relics were discovered in 2005… Queen Ketevan was canonised as a saint by the Georgian Orthodox Church shortly after her death due to her courageous stand against the demand for forcible conversion by the mighty Safavid Empire under Shah Abbas IWritten 28 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. During our two hour boat ride through the mangrove swamps with Mr. Uday, we saw over 20 species of birds. With more attention from forest officials, and draconian measures to prevent residents from dumping trash everywhere, this could become a more rewarding birding hotspot and a fitting tribute to Dr. Salim Ali, India’s great ornithologist.
Here’s what I liked about our visit to this park: It is convenient to access as it is close to Panjim (and about 30 minutes away from the Baga beach area if you leave early around 6 AM). There are very frequent (and free) ferries that help you cross from Ribander to the island in which this sanctuary is located. I had previously made arrangements with Mr. Uday who met us at the ferry drop off point, and drove us a short distance to his boat. During the two-hour boat ride between 7 to 9 AM with him, we saw numerous birds - very large numbers of Black-headed ibis, Brahmini kites, and various egret species. The boat ride through the serene setting with the lush mangrove forests was very enjoyable.
There is a lot of room for improvement though. The fees for entry to the park were not clearly listed and I was surprised to find that they do not accept cash payments for ticket entry. Unfortunately, my US credit card did not work there (although it was accepted for transactions everywhere else in Goa). Fortunately, I was able to pay Rs. 750 (for two adult tickets and a camera) to Mr. Uday, who then paid for my entry using his credit card.
Also, I would’ve like to see brochures or signs that introduce tourists to the park, its ecosystem and birds. But worst of all is the trash. This sanctuary is in an island that is quite densely populated. As a result, there a piles of plastic bottles and trash bags everywhere. I was horrified to see people openly dumping trash into the back waters near the mangrove swamps. I’m assuming there are garbage collection facilities for residents on this island and therefore there is simply no excuse for this kind of behavior.Written 26 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
