Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- HelloChinaTripChina73 contributionsBreathtaking Natural Wonder
Huangshan’s scenery is absolutely stunning! The iconic pine trees, unique rock formations, sea of clouds, and sunrise views are truly unforgettable. Standing atop the mountain and witnessing the rolling clouds feels like being in a fairyland – a must-visit destination!Written 23 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Approximately 1 hour each way with steeper stairs than you encountered before. Worth it? You bet!Written 1 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ClaireLouiseDerbyshire, UK347 contributionsGot a taxi from Huangshan to the Southgate tourist centre (£20 to save time). Paid £2 for local transfer bus to take us to the yungu cable entrance. Brought tickets at the ticket booth for the entrance and cable up (needed passports). Did a circular walk round the back side of the mountain and watched sunset at Bright top peak. Stayed overnight at the shilin Hotel (good). Got up at 530 to see the sunrise at stone monkey peak, then back to Hotel for breakfast before walking around the front side and down the yuping cable, then transfer bus back to the tourist centre. At the tourist centre caught the bus back to Huangshan North Station (£3).
There are a lot of steps up and down but the views are stunning.
100% not to be missedWritten 30 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The first evening was just to explore. It's an interesting area, especially because of the restored but old Huizhou architecture. There are a variety of shops selling things like tea, writing materials, furniture, baked goods (excellent flaky pastries), some clothing, etc. You can explore on your own, and will likely enjoy it. However, it does help to have a guide to explain some details on what is being sold in some of the stores that would be less familiar to North American tourists, for example writing materials and different kinds of ink.
The second evening we came down here for supper. There are several very good restaurants. I'm not sure how easy it would be to order food without a guide, though; this is not Shanghai, and not many people speak English.
If you are there in the evening when it is dark, walk the one or two blocks down to the river, as many of the buildings along the river are beatifully lit up.Written 20 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But this season you need to walk all theway to the Green Pearl Pool to see the clear and clean water, as emerald is in your mind!Written 9 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David HUnion City, CA8,985 contributionsDid not do enough homework to realize how challenge and somewhat dangerous this hiking is. It is an ultimate hiking especially with strong wind. Tian Du Feng is due to close for five years after Dec. 1. Took us almost 2 hours to complete the hiking. The views from the top of mountain is second to none. Ten of 16 us completed the challenge. Three of us gave up right before reaching the top around the turning because it was very strong wind. In addition to the gorgeous views, we were so lucky to see the “Buddha light”. My friend who had been Huangshan 39 times, only saw it once (twice including this trip. The tour guide only saw twice in his 20 some years professional career. It’s a huge challenge and definitely worth hiking to to top. However, don’t push yourself. After all, safety is the #1 priority.Written 15 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- XP-TravelerUnited Kingdom1,060 contributionsChengkan village has well preserved residential architecture from Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). Chengkan village is also widely known as Bagua Village (八卦) relating to Taiji philosophy that focuses on two aspects – Yin and Yang. This can be seen in a lot of the old residential houses. It is highly recommended that you hire a guide. If you can understand Chinese, then local guides can be hired at village entrance for a small fee of rmb50 (the guide will take you through the village and explain a lot of Fengshui design of the buildings to you. The tour would take around 1 hour and if you want to spend longer than it is another rmb50). The local village has very limited English speaking guide. While you can tour the village yourself, a lot of cultural knowledge is lost without someone explaining. While this is not as tourist or famous as Hongcun and Xidi, it is definitely worth a visit.Written 26 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel ABeijing, China35,067 contributionsIf you are visiting China, you will surely see The Great Wall and perhaps the Terracotta Warriors, but Huangshan should be on your China bucket list. There are so many beautiful sights and wonders here. It is crowded but not like the other places I mentioned. Your China trip would feel empty if you don’t visit Huangshan and this peak is very accessible to people with even limited physical abilities.Written 24 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LG_KaySingapore, Singapore7,512 contributionsIt is a 10 mins hike from Yuping cable car station. This place is crowded with tour groups. There are few food and snacks stalls. A good place for stop over and toilet break. Many tourists are taking selfies and personal photos of the iconic Greeting Pine, which can be seen from the platform down a few steps. Personally, this Greeting Pine is nothing spectacular as pine trees are everywhere. I think the pine trees at Refreshing Terrace and Black Tiger Pine are much more imposing.Written 1 October 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David HUnion City, CA8,985 contributionsAfter the Xihei Grand Canyon awesome scenery exploration, we checked in the White Cloud Hotel. Took a shower, had a good
Lunch and started another natural beauty exploration heading to Buxian Bridge. How lucky we were, the overnight raining built up sufficient moisture to let the Mother Nature played the great symphony to have the mist, the fog, the cloud ocean flowing around the awesome mountain peaks. OMG, this morning’s Grand Canyon already shocked me, and now another shock with different kind of natural beauty. Actually, the pictures can only tell very little of this natural beauty. You have to come by yourself with your owns to see such a gorgeous place like an awesome photo after another.Written 15 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It could be managed better to avoid the merchants ruining the nature of this ancient village. The moon lake was the place that Li An’s famous movie “crouching tiger, hidden dragon” took several famous shoots. Overall, it’s a nice walking tour and quite relaxed.Written 20 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Daniel ABeijing, China35,067 contributionsThis is our second visit and we’re content that we stopped again. This place is just so peaceful and relaxing and that is what you’ll need after visiting some of the touristy spots in Huangshan. There is not much to do, souvenirs to buy but what it has is a nice place to take a relaxing stroll in nature.Written 24 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
