It was on my bucket list to welcome New Year at famous Copacabana Beach! I went to Rio before for carnival, and celebrating Reveillon was on my bucket list! I found an activity on Arnbn for New Years party at Copacabana organized by local Carioca for international friends and joined it. Was lots of fun, I met lots of people from different countries. Was a great spot in the middle of Copa, we explored around as well. Fireworks show beyond expectations, I’ve never seen or experienced something like this! Highly recommend going to the water and jump over 7 waves as locals do for a good luck 😉Also the best experience 👍 we partied till the morning and welcome a firs sunrise of 2020. Obrigada Río 👍

I’ve been dancing with samba teams for the past 10 years. Marked the 10th anniversary this year = done 10 parades plus 4 champions’ parades! I always have a blast!! Especially this year, Mocidade gave me a very good position, the second highest platform on the 3rd float! It was amazing!! Love dancing on top of the float, through sambadrome full of spectators! It’s the most exciting event I join every year!

If you want to join the parade, you can contact samba teams directly or through the official agents. You can use your friends’ connection that might give you better prices. But you need to be careful because often ppl try to rip you off. Eatacio was decent because I had a friend that organized costumes and collecting fees. But I was ripped off by União da Ilha for 3 years so eventually said goodbye to them and joined Mocidade. And this year união da ilha got demoted -KARMA. lol On the other hand Mocidade got the 3rd place this year so I got to parade again at champions’ parade!

If you want to watch the parade, the cheapest way is to go to the official ticket office at sambadrome and buy them in person. Go there at least 2 weeks in advance. The prices range from 10 to 3000+ reais depends on where u want to sit at. I recommend sectors 2 - 10. Online vendors always mark up the price big time so I’ve never bought them online.

As for street parties (blocos), they have them everywhere in Rio during the carnival. Just ask local friends which ones to go to. There are official ones and underground ones (illegal) that announce time and location at the last min. But it’s not gonna be anything fancy. If you don’t like getting dirty/bad smell, I don’t recommend. At blocos you see everything, drunk ppl, on drugs sometimes, peeing next to you, throwing up, ppl bumping on to you, horny ppl, many French-kissing random ppl, or more lol so smaller community blocos are more for families and it’s more about music and shows. All depends on which bloco you choose.

Not sure if they have Carnaval next year because of coronavirus. They’re postponing it I heard.

I went to three days of this festival and really enjoyed it. Lots to do, safe environment.
Only problem was first day in receiving the wrist bands, note for other people who would be going multiple days take tickets to pick up all wristbands in the same day.
