Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Joop VEde, The Netherlands2,124 contributionsClosed-in by other newer buildings, this Church looks really out contex, or is it the other way around? Looking at the details, it doesn't stop to amaze you about the architecture.Written 19 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - prakvaid58Philadelphia, PA1,834 contributionsGoritsy is a stop on the Volga Cruise...
it’s rich in historical beauty! Apparently Ivan the terrible uses the monastery for his many concubines! The nunnery was built by his daughter in law ....she later committed suicide by jumping into the river!
But.. the monastery is just captivatingly amazing .. so much intrigue all around! The beauty, the art, the paintings... wonderful!Written 26 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I recently attended a musical event at the venue and had a great evening. The music was good, atmosphere cheerful, and the hostess engaging. This is not your typical bar but rather a local social space for those looking for an engaging time.Written 19 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joop VEde, The Netherlands2,124 contributionsClose to the shopping center, you can find this impressive construction. Once one of the two towers of the old protecting city wall, and except for another smaal piece of the wall on the west side of the town, and with the Church build against its side, this is now the only remaining part.Written 19 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Emarie BPaarl, South Africa726 contributionsWe came across this by accident, as it is close to the hotel that we stayed. This is where most of the victims of the 2011 air crash were buried. Very moving site.Written 23 August 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Takarasina2,101 contributionsThis rock stands on the place where a famous and well-respected Russian prince Yaroslav Moodry (Yaroslav the Wise) allegedly met a bear, fought and killed him (her?) and later, in 1010 in commemoration of this anti-WWF achievement, founded a fortress and humbly called it after himself - Yaroslavl'. Nobody saw that historical assasination but the sign's location is symbolic - right in the downtown - though one can hardly imagine a foreign tourist coming here on purpose.
But if you still happen to pass it by, make a selfy - al least your friends will know that you stood on a spot where a man took an upper hand over a bear in an honest wrestling competition (Yaroslav, by the way, means "glorious in fighting").Written 31 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This was my first ever visit to a brewery, which was arranged by some Russian friends.
I have to say that I was most impressed by what I saw and heard.
Our guide, Svetlana spoke excellent English, providing a clear explanation of processes within the brewery. The installation appeared very modern, clean and efficient.
The only thing that I did not enjoy was tasting the sample hops which were offered to try. I found that they had a bitter taste which lingers. Having now tried hops I will not need to repeat the experience!
The brewery is highly automated and unfortunately there are some areas where photography is not permitted, apparently because of possible interference with sophisticated control mechanisms.
However, I was left with positive impression of high quality control standards being achieved.
The visit concluded with a generous tasting session of the wide range of beers being produced. These varied greatly in style and taste and I am sure that almost anyone would find something they liked.
So based on what I saw during the visit and the tasting session I have no hesitation in recommending Baltika products.
Thank you for an unusual but most interesting visit.Written 29 June 2013This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It isn't very popular with tourists, so you can expect to enjoy some quiet time to yourself in this place.Written 16 October 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Takarasina2,101 contributionsPavel Demidov was a wealthy merchant, rather controversial a personality but loving his city and doing much good for it. Upon his death local authorities asked the emperor to allow them to erect a memorial to him resembling the famous Alexander column in St Petersburg. The emperor was kind enough to agree and seven years later the monument was inaugurated. It lived its peaceful life for more than a century but then communists seized power and unleashed their war on "tzarist past". Unfortunately, there was not a single monument to a tzar in Yaroslavl' so those obscurantists attacked the Demidov column because it was crowned with a double-headed eagle, a symbol of the Russian empire. It took them thirteen years to finish their job. In 1931, when communist industrialization started the country badly needed copper and those fighters for better future of mankind decided that that copper column would be a great contribution to Soviet might. It appeared though that the thing was hollow and filled with trivial sand. Hapless industrializers still gave their precious present to the motherland and that was the end of it.
Thanks God, those thugs got bankrupt in 1991 and residents of Yaroslavl' restored it in 2005. A new version, however, has a double-headed eagle looking in the opposite direction, at the beautiful church of Ilya the Prophet (see my corrsponding review) but who cares?Written 1 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
