Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Takarasina2,101 contributionsBut this forever young beauty is as charming as before.
I visited it in September, on a bright golden autumn weekday. The church was open since it was rather warm. I stepped inside. Practically no-one around. Spell-binding old frescoes, icons, a magnificent iconostasis, fragrance of frankincence, soft crackling of burning candles. And silence. Enveloping silence.
I love you, Ilya.
It's somewhat puzzling, however, that one has to pay an entrance fee to see that splendor. They say it's a museum. Okay, it is. But first of all, it's a place of worship, a place to pray. For dough?
Still, strongly recommended! A unique drawcard any city on earth would be proud of.
(Parking nearby is a challenge - too many official institutions around. Try smaller streets a bit further.)Written 2 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Eva JMoscow, Russia2,698 contributionsI visited with friends, I was told to use a wraparound skirt and they weren't. We guessed that my winter coat wasn't long enough, theirs were. - Takarasina2,101 contributionsIt was in September. I was on my own.
Its reconstruction is progressing, of course, but there's still an ocean of work to be done. The news was a brand-new wooden iconostasis installed. It's practically without icons, however, but the road is taken by walking. The aisle right to the main entrance was nicely renovated too plus I climbed the belfry (piles of construction garbage on the way up!) and admired the surroundings, bird's eye view. It was not an attraction for everyone but the priest I knew let me do it.
So, the progress is obvious. Will wait another two-three years to check further advances.
Recommended anyhow.

- AmandaOldRogBartlesville, OK402 contributionsThis is an old cathedral within a Monastery. It's design is interesting and again the white exterior stands out against the surroundings. - Takarasina2,101 contributionsYaroslavl' is famous for its churches. This one is just another beauty - for foreign visitors. For intelligent Russians, however, it tells a sentimental story because it was in this city that Russian artist Alexei Savrasov (virtually unknown outside of this country) started creating his masterpiece - a painting called The Rooks Have Come Back. It can easily be found on the Internet but one should know that Savrasov made first sketches of his future chef d'Å“uvre depicting this very church.
We visited it in summer and were very much impressed, both by it and by the story we heard. Took great photos as well.Written 22 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. it’s rich in historical beauty! Apparently Ivan the terrible uses the monastery for his many concubines! The nunnery was built by his daughter in law ....she later committed suicide by jumping into the river!
But.. the monastery is just captivatingly amazing .. so much intrigue all around! The beauty, the art, the paintings... wonderful!Written 26 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
