- SteviefullKidderminster, UK1,328 contributionsOne of the last things we did using the Moscow City Card was take the cable car from by the Luzniki stadium (a fair walk from the metro) over to Sparow Hills and back. The journey was probably only 30 minutes total but was relaxing and a nice way to see some of the sites we had visited earlier in our holiday.
When we were there (August 2019) a lot of building work was being carried out on the Sparow Hills side and it looked like a ski slope was being built, so by now it could be fully operational.

It's painfully slow, and the cars are always packed full. Still, it's cheap enough, and relatively convenient. Igor was very helpful when preparing the tour and he made it very easy to obtain a tour that was personalized to our specific demands. He always knew exactly what we wanted and how to provide it, not only when it comes to visits, guides but also restaurants and practical things. We had very good french-speaking guides in each town, as we requested. The restaurants were exactly what we were looking for. And he was also very flexible, had a very good level of English and the car was very comfortable.
All in all, Privilege Tour made the Golden Circle tour our n°1 experience during our visit in Russia and one that we will never forget. Perfect for a group of adults, but also for families with children, as was our case. He was impressed with promptness of the responses and also the level of English the drive spoke. This time I travelled alone with my two young children and from the very beginning it was clear that Alexander is very serious about his business and is always making sure his clients are well-treated and happy with the service. We used both - SMS and WhatsApp to communicate. We did want to go on a tour of VDNKh on our return trip since we had time to do that, though because of the heatwave we changed our plans and only used the transfer service from Paveletskaya train station to our hotel by SVO airport. Alexander speaks perfect English and is very accommodating - he came to the train station to personally make sure that we are okay, that the taxi car had a booster seat for my 3 year old, helped with our luggage and provided bottled water for each of us. I highly recommend Angel-taxi to anyone who needs a tour of Moscow or other Russian towns or simply need a transfer. Last time I did it was in December. Together with my friends from Paris (French). I lived in that city for four years and know very well how reprehensible this means of transportation is there. They were shocked. Such state-of-the-art thingy in Moscow?
Yes, my dear! By many standards Russian capital is far ahead of the reality you live in.
The railway is interconnected with metro to such an extent that you pay just once, irrespective of which network you use or whether you make a change. The price for a one-way ticket is ridiculous - 40 roubles (half a Dollar, forty British pence). Envy, envy!
Navigation is bilingual - in Russian and in English - both as signs and verbal (announcements in cars). Change to subway and vice versa is usually smooth with an exception of several cases when you have to walk in the streets. But these are quite rare.

However, I had plans to be in Moscow and Saint Petersburg during the month of April and I’d contacted WelcomeTaxi for the ride between airports and my hotels. The reservation process was very quick and easy and rates very affordable in comparison to other options I found and having an English-speaking available driver helped me choose their service.
Well, as COVID-19 erupted into the global stage and plans for international travel were unraveling (understandably) daily I reached out to these folks and asked if some form of accommodation could be made for me so as not to lose my deposits entirely. By the start of the next business day I’d heard directly from their CEO Nicolas that I’d be provided a voucher equivalent to the full amount of my deposits and useable in the future when travel once again becomes an option.
Now, as stated upfront, I have yet to actually use their services first-hand but given how timely, professional and courteous they have been up to this point I have every confidence the actual pickup and drop off process will be nothing short of a similarly pleasant experience.

NB: 50% midweek discount. And even then it was over 11 thousand roubles for a single compartment.
Well, I am not an oligarch, it’s just that it was the winter of COVID-19, and no vaccine yet. Of course I didn’t want to have people around – a four-berth compartment in the Red Arrow is generally OK, but you know, one doesn’t sleep in a facial mask!
Besides, I didn’t have any annual leave that year – self-isolation, quarantine, etc. I mean, I could throw in for a single night on the train the money I would otherwise spend for a two-weeks’ vacation.
Apart from the price, I am positively happy with the Grand Express.
The personnel is nice, well-behaved and very accommodating. I asked them a lot of questions – being tired after having spent the day on the road, my brain was a bit slow. I asked how to do the bed, and how to move the table, and how to operate the toilet – they were patient and very helpful.
The interior looks like a Soviet era elite train. Not that I’ve seen any of those, just my imagination. Look through the photos, you’ll see.
The compartment is actually a ‘double’ for single use. There are two beds, one over the other, and a sofa on the opposite side, under the TV-set. The TV has various channels in various languages.
On the wall under the TV-set you’ll see the remote control, I think it’s for air-conditioning which I didn’t use, and power sockets.
When you enter, you see the table already set – fruit, bottled water.
The slip of paper is for your breakfast, you can order it the night before. You can also order your dinner, or go to the restaurant car, I’ll tell you about it later.
What else? A safe and wardrobe, a hair-dryer, a clothes brush.
Much more important, a private bathroom! Toilet, washing basin, even a shower!
Disinfecting gel, of course – sign of the difficult COVID times. As usual, shampoo and shower gel, toothpaste and toothbrush, towels. I love it!
The dining-car, old-timer classics. There weren’t may people, and the service was fast. Cards accepted. I ordered pasta carbonara – it was the cheapest on the menu ))) Green tea, served in a tea-pot, dessert. I hate tea-bags in tea-mugs, I like real tea made in a real tea-pot.
Everything is fine with the restaurant, and the train on the whole.
Moreover, they will send you a taxi, free of charge! Very handy, especially if you have heavy luggage or if it rains.
The only thing I wish they had taken care of is the connection between the cars. It needs water-proof and insulation. I was in my theatre outfit, had a day-outing to Mariinsky ballet, and dripping rain from accordion connection is really not my thing!
