Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Bruno VAREQUIPA, Peru1,265 contributionsThe ruins open to the public are just a small part of the whole complex. You don't need a guide. They sell a leaflet for 5 soles which has enough information, as well as some information boards. The mirador is not open to the public (yet?). Bring water, because it gets hot. This is a must when you are in Trujillo.
The museum is a joke, just one small room with some archological pieces. The rest is under construction. When walking back from Chan Chan, take the small pedestrian path on the right that leads you to the Huaca Toledo, an impressive pyramid construction.Written 1 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Glad we did because there is not much public transport available and it is a long journey. The archeological site is very interesting, we had an audio guide downloaded into our phone available at the reception as we walked around. Some incredible friezes depicting scenes from Moche culture. The highlight was the tomb where the mummified Lady of Cao was found with various valuable artefacts. The mummy herself can be seen via a mirror in the adjacent museum together with incredible fine and intricate artefacts.Written 1 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KieranLima, Peru1,124 contributionsExcellent museum. And probably the best we visited while in Trujillo. It’s s/5 entry per adult.
The museum could use better lighting, And it lacks informational cards in English on most exhibits.
Yet, the finds taken from the Moche pyramids and located here, are absolutely fascinating. I’d definitely recommend visiting this site while visiting Trujillo and the Moche Pyramids.
It’s so much better than the garbage dump that is Chan Chan.Written 18 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The Plaza de Armas Trujillo is a fantastic spot to visit at sunset, on dusk or at night. It lights up beautifully!
The plaza comes alive after sunset with families and tourists out for a stroll. And you’ll find tons of popcorn (cancha) sellers and people selling and renting all manner of neon glowing toys.
I’d highly recommend having a drink at the Tearoom Santo Domingo on the plaza at sunset. Grab a seat in the balcony and watch the plaza light up, before wandering through the plaza to soak up the atmosphere.Written 18 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Yet unless you’re in or around the Trujillo Plaza de Armas, I wouldn’t bother going out of your way to see it.
It’s nowhere near as impressive as other cathedrals in Peru. But it is still nice.
The roof has modern-ish painting. And the alter is small and unimpressive, even in comparison to other cathedrals in Trujillo (example - Santo Domingo Church).Written 18 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Take note of the beautiful, intricately carved wooden entrance door. In the mansion are exhibits of gold artifacts from the Chimu culture and ceramics as well as the gorgeous furniture from the Spanish and Peruvian Republican eras and the writing desk where Simon Bolivar used to draft his treaties of emancipation from the Spanish crown. Today the mansion is owned by the Banco Central.Written 24 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Robert ORotterdam, The Netherlands6,602 contributionsThis is a huge mall on the margins of the city on the road to the Huanchaco coastal area. The mall is gated and well guarded. Many visitors come by car, as there is lots of space to park and security. Access for pedestrians is through small gates where attentive guards keep a close eye on who is entering. City buses B and H stop at the mall.
For travellers the many shops like Tottus and Ripley, and smaller fashion shops selling clothes, shoes, electronic devices etc. are perhaps of interest. There is a food court as well. A metro supermarket is at a corner of the complex.Written 21 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's really nice but not so many toys, only 4 rooms of exhibition.Written 28 July 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - YojoaDonChicago, IL204 contributionsThis house originally belonged to a Spanish count in colonial times. Around 1841 it passed ownership to Juan Manuel Iturregui, a figure from Peru's fight for independence. In the mid 1800s it was considered to be one of the finest houses in all of South America. Today the house is home to the Club Central, an exclusive club for Trujillo's finest families. Most of the building is restricted to members (and their guests) but all visitors can wander in to the first courtyard and visit a room to one side which is used for special exhibits. If you want to see more of the inside, check out their Facebook page.
Ironically, next door is the Casa del Pueblo, a community center operated by the APRA group with services for the poor, cheap lunches, etc. It serves totally the opposite group of people. The central meeting room (open to the public) has a huge permanent exhibit of old photos.Written 18 October 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. However it is an interesting historical site which is worth a visit.Written 8 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
It's a beautiful place (quiet, in the city but also away from it). The guides put a lot of love to maintain the place, and they facilitate your experience so that you connect with the plants. It's not complicated to get there--if you call a taxi, they will follow their vehicle's GPS and voilá!Written 13 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I could not tell if there were significant additions or reductions. Lots of interesting stuff to see here and we’ll displayed by societies both before and after the Incas. I particularly enjoyed the Chimu and Nazca displays.Written 16 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
