Kris answered our many questions and shared a lot about living in Malaysia. We enjoyed his stories and humour while also seeing many sights on the island. It was like visiting with a longtime friend.

We went to Entopia, Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang Hill, two dams and had lunch in a local food centre in Air Itam. What a wonderful time, everything was great but a must visit is definintely Penang Hill, the Habitat anfd the wonderful Curtis Walk on the Hill. If its a busy day the Express lane of the funicular is recommended. Our guide, Simon, was buying ingredients for the class so we learned about spices, vegetables and fruit while watching the interaction between the vendors and customers. There were 5 people in the class so our group did not interrupt the flow of the market.
The class was held in a room above the market. The cook, Amy, spoke excellent English and was keen to explain culture as well as techniques. We participated in chopping and cooking. - Mark A1 contributionA fantastic day with Matahari. Princillia and SJ are excellent guides. The tour isn't just a cycle ride, it's educational too with lots of knowledge of local flora and fauna. We were lucky enough to see eagles, kingfishers, bee-eaters, monitor lizards and witness a monkey colony fight. The tour included hands-on education about sustainable palm oil production and local crops without being preachy or boring. Matahari as a company is very supportive of cottage industries in the local area and we witnessed this at first hand. Local snacks and an excellent lunch were also included. It was great fun and I'd highly recommend Matahari as a company and this tour to everyone. - qtown bear6 contributionsA very enjoyable tour. Brandon is a great host who put his small group of strangers at ease straight away. We had an adventure filled with delicious food, good company and fascinating insights of culture and history.
It was not only a highlight of our Penang stay but it gave us confidence to order and eat at local spots. We returned to the Ayam ros, chicken samosa and Char Koay Teow spots he introduced us to. The meeting spot even became our cold drink oasis when we were in that area.

- EdFromSacSacramento, CA104 contributionsWe had such a wonderful time with Lee-Ann on our food tour through Penang! She is so warm and friendly and knowledgeable about the food, history and origins. We enjoyed everything we ate, and also enjoyed the social nature of the tour with our fellow tourists. You get to try so many different foods, and they’re all delicious! By the end we were fairly full, it found a little space for dessert.
