Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I enjoy but generally don't "love" museums, but this one was definitely an exception. The wide range and diversity of exhibits for all age groups ensured that you were engaged and attentive throughout. It also helps that it's located in a beautiful spot in Hakone, and on a sunny day, it looks amazing with the outdoor displays.

We were lucky with the weather and had reasonably good views of Mt. Fuji after disembarking from the cable car. The ropeway ride itself is mildly exciting, and passes over steaming sulpher vents on the way to the top. If the weather is cloudy, however, I would strongly recommend to skip the cablecar to the top; you won't see anything to warrant the expense.

Wanted to see mt fuji and chose this lake (1 of 5 fuji lakes)

Took a 30 min shinkansen ride from Tokyo station and then a 1 hr taxi ride (USD75 one way) from Odawara station

Then took what looks like a pirate ship for a quick 25 min pitstop on the lake. A round trip is about 1.5 hrs which we didn’t choose. We took business class which has a sheltered cabin plus private deck area

Wasn’t breathtaking and maybe not worth the cab ride here

Unfortunately, as our tour was running late, we were only able to see the shrine and the torii gate from the boat. The setting, with huge trees, looks beautiful though.

A unique ride on a historic rail line. It seems to serve the locals very well. It was a slow smooth ride with an idyllic view of the mountain scenery, shops and houses so close to the rail line. It was a short steep ride to the stop where we had to disembark in order to catch the cable car. Short but sweet ride.

One of the best museums I have ever been at. I really loved the contemporary pieces from the Japan artists. Many of those were about nature.

On approach via the cable car the dead forests are the first thing you notice, the smell of Sulfur. Once again this is a tourist hot spot so lots of people, but it is worth the view. It is stated not to stay longer than 15 minutes due to the Sulfur. Incredible to watch all the tourists eating the black eggs. Saying is that you extend you life by seven years if you consume one of these eggs - but no refund if it doesn't work!

It was quite chilly and windy at the top; but a very peaceful walk. There were very few people, a quiet corner of Japan we very much enjoyed.

The view of Mt Fuji san was clear and unobstructed. The trails were well marked with uneven steps. Good shoes needed. There were elderly travellers having a difficult time on the rocky paths. Air was fresh and crisp.

It’s free with a Hakone pass. It’s quite small. There is a little greenhouse, a craft store, and a tea house. It is nicely laid out. Don’t need to spend more than 20 minutes here, it worth the short uphill walk to just be there and rest for a bit.

Lovely historical pottery and ceramics. Not big but thoughtful, well displayed pieces. The big surprise is the exquisite garden surrounding it. The moss garden especially.

My experience climbing Mt. Kintoki may not qualify for a review as it happened in 1964. I was stationed at Camp Fuji with the Marines at the time and was invited to the climb with three members of the Japanese Self Defense Forces. The climb was a good workout. The trail was not crowded, a few other Japanese climbers. Upon reaching the top, we gathered at a small house where a woman lived with her young daughter. There we sang songs in our native tongues. It was a great experience which I will never forget.

If you want to combine a visit to Lake Ashi with a little, easy hike on the lakeside then Onshi Hakone Park is your place to be. It is a serene and not to strenuous hike, maybe even walk, that I can also recommend to elderly visitors of the city. If the weather is fortitudinous you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji and even if not the remains of traditional fishing villages and the calm nature will have been worth your time anyways.

A gentle stroll up the hill on a gravel path through the pampas grass with good views of the surrounding area .
There’s parking nearby and a Lawson convenience store .
    Worth a quick visit .

This was a lovely little museum with come really great local art. There is also a beautiful seating area that overlooks Mt Fuji and the lake. There is also a cafe with the same outlook. A great place to relax. Really easy to access via the Hakone bus or the Hakone Cruise ship.

Our driver decided we should stop here on our quick visit to Hanoke .
The place is incredibly peaceful, still and tranquil. I loved the rankan buddhas everywhere with their various shapes, sizes and expressions. Wished I could have stayed longer. I will be back!
