Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My experience climbing Mt. Kintoki may not qualify for a review as it happened in 1964. I was stationed at Camp Fuji with the Marines at the time and was invited to the climb with three members of the Japanese Self Defense Forces. The climb was a good workout. The trail was not crowded, a few other Japanese climbers. Upon reaching the top, we gathered at a small house where a woman lived with her young daughter. There we sang songs in our native tongues. It was a great experience which I will never forget.

Our last leg of our journey up to the Hakone crater started at the Sounzan station and taking the Hakone Tozan cable cars. Pretty interesting journey overall starting from Hakone to the mountain top. It is an upward journey that enriched our senses qnd cultural experience overall. Quite an amazing but tiring day trip. Pretty much a once in a lifetime event.

Started from Sengokuhara, where the bus dropped us off. A clearly marked route - look for brown signs. We found the timings were pretty accurate although we came down a bit quicker. We saw great views of mt. Fuji from the summit and along the ridge. Would recommend boots or good shoes since some parts of rocky uneven surfaces. We returned down to Miyagino. Whole trip was 11 km in about 5 hours including stops for photos and lunch.

Lots to do in the Mt. Hakone area, but most visitors include a ride up the ropeway for views of Mt. Fuji. The ropeway also passes over the Owaku-dani sulfur fields of steaming vents. Supposedly, the "black eggs" that are sold at the top of the mountain are boiled in the sulfur water which is what colors them black.

My Kamiyama is synonymous with Mt Hakone and probably enjoyed the best either riding the Hakone Tozan Railway to Gora or the ropeway up to Owakudani which is a crater valley and then down to Lake Ashi. Views of the mountain and surroundings were beautiful. Moreover it was a lot cooler up here even during summer and a light jacket might come in handy. Please note while this may be one of the best places to view Mt Fuji, Mt Fuji may not always be visible due to the dense fog. In fact over the past decade we have been here 3 times during summer and only the 3rd time were we able to get a glimpse of the submit of Mt Fuji as the fog cleared for just a few seconds which allowed us to catch a glimpse.

This was a two hour hike up Mt Sengen and finishing in Hakone. The starting point is a bit difficult to find. The mountain is not that big compared to the surrounding ones, but this is a nice walk through the forests around Hakone.
