Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I arrived around noon in Gora and was looking for things to do. As the options were limited I decided to visit this museum. If I had had more time, I'd probably done something different. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the way the museum is laid out and the artworks positioned in the landscape. If the weather is right and you have a few hours, thus is definitely a good option for the whole family.

One of the best museums I have ever been at. I really loved the contemporary pieces from the Japan artists. Many of those were about nature.

    – This is a wonderland of Venetian Glass exquisite and beautifully presented in a walk through museum full of colour and sparkle – the open air grounds feature a bridge, water mill a lake and an upmarket restaurant ( seperate no charge entrance fee) – we were here on a Sunday with lots of visitors who were predominately Japanese families – entrance was 1800 yen on the pricey side but to me well worth the value.

Amazing place in the resort area of Hakone. You have to check in your phone, and you go through a metal detector. They do not want you photographing their collection. They have prime examples of traditional Japanese pottery all the way from Jomon to the present day. Superb gold screen exhibit. World class museum. Nice shop with high-quality museum merch. If you're in Hakone, and you enjoy smaller museums like the Norton Simon, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, or the d'Orsay, you'll love this place.

Beautiful grounds and building. Exhibition was exquisite and the souvenir shop had many beautiful and whimsical gifts. If you have the time snd appetite, you could enjoy a light meal or tea in the adjacent cafe. A delightful surprise in Hakone

Lovely historical pottery and ceramics. Not big but thoughtful, well displayed pieces. The big surprise is the exquisite garden surrounding it. The moss garden especially.

This was a lovely little museum with come really great local art. There is also a beautiful seating area that overlooks Mt Fuji and the lake. There is also a cafe with the same outlook. A great place to relax. Really easy to access via the Hakone bus or the Hakone Cruise ship.

Quite a little complex. A major transport hub in ancient time where travellers would pay a toll to cross. More museum areas than you'd think, with stable and living quarters etc. Quite interesting.

Hakone Craft House is a great stop on your visit to Hakone. Located in a garden just uphill of Gora Station, Craft House gives you an opportunity to receive great instruction from friendly teachers as you create something to take home. We chose glass bead making and had a blast creating necklaces and bracelets using gorgeous glass beads we made ourselves. We were total beginners and they came out great!

This small but interesting museum was quite the bargain for only 100 yen admission. Most of the exhibits were in both English and Japanese.

Once inside there were a number of dioramas of the area as well as hands on models that represented how the hot springs water was processed and transported to the rest of Hakone for use in the onsens.

Other displays included a history of the area, volcanic activities especially the newest crater that formed in 2015 and monitoring equipment.

The yellow sulphur rocks were unusual in appearance but nice to see up close.

Unfortunately there also was a very distinct smell of sulphur inside the museum that started to give me a headache so i had to leave the museum after only about 20 minutes inside.

Went here on a whim. Don't be put off by the rather run down exterior or indeed the first room or two which appear very random. There are some truly delightful miniatures in here and even my partner and our Japanese guide (who had never even heard of it) really enjoyed it. Some nice things in the shop too. Bit hard to find but on a bus route.

Very small private museum, basically two rooms. Nice photo exhibition on 1st floor and display of photos of Mt Fuji and Hakone on the 2nd. Admission price is pretty stiff for something that can be finished with 30 min., though some of the photos are pretty. There are also photo albums which contain additional pictures of Mt Fuji. Unfortunately we did not have time to try the adjoining cafe or time to interact with the owner.
