It was an option offered by the bus driver to take the Hakone Ropeway as there was quite heavy traffic building up as we were heading up the hill. It was on our own dime but we jumped at the chance.
The ride was uneventful but the views were great.
We recommend it if given the chance or opportunity.

Beautiful view of the lake and if you're lucky, you might get to see Mt. Fuji. There's a tour you can take by using the pirate ship. If you bought the Hakone day pass, this is already included in your ticket. Let the gentle breeze refresh you. Background music (using your AirPods) optional.

It was an early rainy morning but the cedars were beautiful and splendid. It was very peaceful. It is a nice walk and really celebrated the cedar forest and hakone lake and the mountains.

As you exit the ropeway car there's the distinct smell of sulphur. The weather is cool with a breeze. There's a couple of eateries and souvenir shops in and around the top. Visit the Hakone Geo Museum...it's rather interesting.

We always visited this museum when we stayed in Hakone (every 2-3 years).
The museum itself is small and easy to navigate. But the collections are super impressive with lots of masterpieces on rotations from around the world.
Truly a gem in the art scene in Hakone, Japan.
They also have a cute cafe which serves the best artsy jello dessert, like an impressionist painting (in one of the photos).

A unique ride on a historic rail line. It seems to serve the locals very well. It was a slow smooth ride with an idyllic view of the mountain scenery, shops and houses so close to the rail line. It was a short steep ride to the stop where we had to disembark in order to catch the cable car. Short but sweet ride.

    – This is a wonderland of Venetian Glass exquisite and beautifully presented in a walk through museum full of colour and sparkle – the open air grounds feature a bridge, water mill a lake and an upmarket restaurant ( seperate no charge entrance fee) – we were here on a Sunday with lots of visitors who were predominately Japanese families – entrance was 1800 yen on the pricey side but to me well worth the value.

It was quite chilly and windy at the top; but a very peaceful walk. There were very few people, a quiet corner of Japan we very much enjoyed.

The view of Mt Fuji san was clear and unobstructed. The trails were well marked with uneven steps. Good shoes needed. There were elderly travellers having a difficult time on the rocky paths. Air was fresh and crisp.

We hadn't planned to visit this but were on the cable car passing by and when they announced it we thought we would pop in to take a look. From our point of view it was worth it just to walk through the gardens alone. Everything was just turning autumnal and looked lovely

This is a superb museum and the price reflects the collection. There are wonderful examples of pottery and they are well arranged and illuminated. They do make you store your cameras and such in lockers - not certain as to why they take these extra precautions when most museums just say no photography. After walking through the extensive private collection, take a few minutes to enjoy the foot baths - a delightful way to end a museum visit that has you on your feet for a long time.
