Our guide, Ryoei Aoki (Roy) reached out to me a month before the tour to see what things we were interested in visiting. We picked a few from the list on the site and he suggested a couple of others. We started in Yoichi and finished in Otaru. We had an amazing time. It was a lovely town, with great history. Roy-san was very knowledgeable about the history of the region and he was efficient in showing us the highlights of the town. It was much more than we expected. Otaru is a popular tourist town with more than you can do in a single visit. We're glad we got to see the highlights and look forward to returning for a longer stay. - Jan I1 contributionExcellent way to quickly travel around Hokkaido. Great tour guide. Minor issue is that this is lot of driving - 400 km - for one day snd bus is sized for Japanese sized passengers. - Doree M19 contributionsOtaru is scenic, with phenomenal desserts, beautiful glasswork and music boxes. It is a nice day trip from Sapporo, which ends with a very relaxing onsen. I would highly recommend the day trip as a nice way to get away from the larger city. Tomo was a great guide: he was a good conversationalist, gave me some wonderful food recommendations, and also helped me arrange shipping for some of the beautiful glass I bought. The highlight was definitely the unexpected seafood lunch. Akiko seamlessly adjusted the tour to include a delicious feast of king crab and horsehair crab, which was an unforgettable experience.
Beyond the incredible food, Akiko was a fantastic guide. She shared fascinating insights into Hokkaido and Japanese culture, making the tour both informative and entertaining. I particularly enjoyed our visit to the sake brewery, where Akiko expertly explained the intricate process of sake making. It was fascinating to see the brewery in action.
The Canal was also breathtaking, especially with the fresh snow dusting the old warehouses.
Akiko was so down-to-earth and understanding when I was a little too ambitious with the food! I was eager to try the sea urchin, but I simply couldn't fit another full plate. Akiko kindly offered me some of her own, which was incredibly generous and delicious.
I highly recommend this tour with Akiko. He even gave us an amazing lunch recommendation in nearby Yoichi for after the tour.
