Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Leanne KBrisbane, Australia289 contributionsGreat island to visit. Has a lot of European backpackers. Hard to snorkel with so many boats. Only bicycles and horse drawn carriages for transport. No dogsWritten 4 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Kai ESingapore6 contributionsClear waters in this region Gili Air has good number of fishes. Saw sea turtles at Gili Meno and Trawangan. However, don't expect to see colorful corals as most of the corals are dead in this region.Written 25 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JulesA73St Just, UK209 contributionsWe visited for 5 days with our teenage daughter. We had previously been on Gili Gede so we found Meno to be very different.
You arrive and it's very hot and busy. To get your luggage to your accommodation you will either have to walk in the heat or take the horse and trap. I had issues using the horses as they don't seem particularly well looked after.
We found the snorkelling on the island wasn't great, lots of boat trip going on and my partner nearly got hit by a boat on more than one occasion. He also said there is a really strong tide running along the reef so it's not good for anybody that's not strong enough to cope.
We snorkelled every morning at high tide, turtles feeding every day just off the shore but no coral.
Further out my partner saw some coral, bigger turtles, black top sharks and barracuda.
Eating on the island is limited, lots of places but not great food. It's also quite expensive for what's on offer. Obviously you can go to one of the bigger resorts but to me that's not really experiencing the island life.
Having walked around there were areas full of young couples which made us feel very old and out of place lol. My daughter was slightly shocked how small some of the ladies bikinis were!! They do have signs up asking women to be respectful and cover up when walking through the island but not many took this on board!
There are ATMs on the island and a lot of places do take card payments.
Some great live music in some of the bars, some awful live music too lol.
Overall it's a pretty island, not as much rubbish as the other gilis. It can be noisy at night time, off shore party boats. It's noisy during the day with off shore snorkelling boats buzzing up and down. You will see turtles but the coral is limited. However, I don't feel it's a family island, definitely honeymoon/couples.Written 3 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Due to the fact that I was staying in Senggigi, it was a bit of a drive. The transportation was arranged through my hotel, and a guide was waiting for us at the gate.Written 21 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - roseDerbyshireNew Mills, UK273 contributionsWe went here for the day to sunbathe and go in the sea. Lots of places with sinners to choose from. We negotiated a price with a lady where we wanted to stay for the day. Lovely white sand. The sea that day a bit rough but you could still get in and out ok. There is a strong undercurrent. Lots of surfers going out in boats to the reef. There are some people selling thing's but not too much hassle me.Nice day. Lovely for a walk along the beach, clean.Written 8 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mr BDevon, UK6 contributionsHaving been travelling Southeast Asia for 6 months, these are the cleanest beaches we’ve found. The wide reef can be tricky, especially at low tide, and the currents can be a little scary. Of course there’s poverty - how else do you get a meal for £2.50? But there are real communities and we’ve found the locals delightful. Unlike anywhere else we’ve been, the hawkers ask once and take ‘no thanks’ for an answer. There are some awesome cafes, bars and restaurants, but, yes, the very loud early morning call to prayer is an issue for non-Muslim tourists, and the open air bars on the west coast taking it in turns to play techno beats until 4am is a joke that wears thin, especially as, on this family and couple-orientated island, there’s hardly anyone raving after midnight. They need to work together to agree the island’s identity. With so many travellers only coming for 2 or 3 days, it is super-peaceful from breakfast to the spectacular sunset.Written 3 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TopKingofKingsUnited Kingdom604 contributionsI went to Pantai Pink 1 and 2 from Tanjung Luar - both nice but the beaches weren't exactly pink. Maybe there was a tint of pink on both beaches but not clear pink. Both beaches were nice though and the first one did have a shop where you can get drinks and fresh coconuts but the second one had no shops at allWritten 17 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
