What travellers are saying
- Jim108 contributionsMaster-of-Nets Garden is one of the less popular mansions in the Suzhou area.
We visited the attraction during Spring Festival of 2024, in a rainy day. The entrance charge is RMB 15, which is half price due to a policy implemented by Suzhou government to encourage tourism. Though supposedly, oversea guests (with passport) need to pay full price, you can simply buy the discounted ticket in an online app (e.g., Ctrip), obtain a 2D barcode, and just scanned the 2D barcode at the entrance. Nobody will check your ID card.
Our visit is pleasant as the Master-of-Nets Garden is relatively uncrowded due to its status as a lesser attraction. The reservation of entrance can be secured in real-time, unlike the major attractions, such as the Suzhou Museum, Lion Forest, which needs to be reserved days (if not weeks) in advance. The rainy day also helps to reduce the crowd.
The attraction beautifully showcased the Chinese mansion and garden philosophy, as you can find different Instagram worthy photos from different spots in the mansion.
The Master-of-Nets Garden is a very small attraction. It took less than 30 minutes to finish the tour.Written 15 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The combination of ponds, greenery, houses etc makes it look like you’re back in the past. It’s a very nice place for photos too. Tickets are not expensive too and I recommend spending at least 1h in thereWritten 3 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jim108 contributionsLion Forest Garden is one of the four top tourist destinations in Suzhou. Compared with the lesser-known destination such as the Master-of-Nets Garden, it is much more crowded. Most of the buildings of the Lion Forest Garden are used for bonsai display. They are nice, but not unique for the Lion Forest Garden. I found that the highlight of the tour is the winding pathways through the rockeries surrounding the lake. It may take you around one hour to go through all the winding pathways, and you will experience different views when you pop out of the pathway.Written 16 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Kevin FSingapore, Singapore3 contributionsTongli at Suzhou is a nice ancient water town for relaxation and leisure. There are a lot of homesteads to be selected and stay for couple of nights. Most of the homestead are comfortable, clean and located within the scenic areas. It is best to have WeChat apps for easy communication and directions with the owners if you intend to stay in these homesteads.
Tongli has a lot of cafes, local style restaurants and convenient shops to choose from. It is no worry about the amenities and foods.
You may walk along the canals and bridges to enjoy the ambiance of water town. You may take the boat ride and visit few Suzhou style gardens especially the "Retreat & Reflection Garden."
The access is easy. Take Metro Line 4 at Suzhou Railway Station to Tongil station, and take public bus of 725 outside the exit to South Gate of tourist centre of Tongli Scenic Areas, (only $2 RMB bus fare)
It is also quite convenient to visit Zhouzhuang Water Town (better scenes) by taxi which will cost about $50 RMB one way.Written 14 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was with my Chinese friends in one, and I enjoyed it.
It is probably even more beautiful with more flowers in April and May.
It was a holiday, and there were perhaps too many people.
And with that, there was also a nice yes,
Next time, when I come, I go to visit the other gardens as well.Written 4 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The pinnacle of course is Tiger Hill Tower (Huqiu Ta), a little like the Leaning Tower of Pisa, being over one thousand years old and with a characteristic tilt. My family loved climbing the stone steps in the cool shade, even in the city’s summer heat, and enjoyed ice creams and relaxation at the summit. It’s a beautiful and well-maintained place, beyond the reach of most crowds, which makes it a rare treat in Suzhou.Written 15 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s advised to visit end of afternoon if you want to enjoy day and night landscape.Written 28 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Martin ASuzhou, China2,982 contributionsThe hill is an easy climb and the ancient tower is surrounded by fascinating history and geography, including a Buddhist temple, an outdoor movie area with snacks, lots of old stone stairs, and a bamboo forest. It's a very photogenic venue.Written 4 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ian AndersonShanghai, China159 contributionsJinji (Golden Chicken) Lake gives oxygen to Suzhou. The lake feels large enough to be like a sea but you can walk round it briskly in less than 3 hours (follow the "Fitness Trail"). Inevitably quite crowded on/near the plaza in front of the famous "Big Trousers" skyscraper, you can excape the throng quite fast. Architecture around the lake is generally attractive - and dramatically lit up in the evening. Restaurants/cafes either near the plaza or especially near the Culture & Arts Centre, also on East side (Western) or SW section. Boat trips available and I believe you can visit the island in the middle with a pagoda. If you are well-heeled, try staying at the ship-shaped Crowne Plaza (v good) on NW shore. Just a pity that the famous fountain show has been cancelled for 18 monthsWritten 14 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
