Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Paul SGreater London, UK264 contributionsA wonderful place to visit. I think it’s the first wooden temple I’ve been in, although reading the history behind it, it’s a bit like Triggers broom.
Well worth a visit, photos don’t do it justice.Written 1 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The pagoda was built in 1785 by King Bodawpaya of the Konbaung dynasty after the Mahamuni image was captured during the invasion of the Arakan Kingdom. The gold plated statue of Buddha is different from the usual Buddha's face one sees.Written 25 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gp Capt R K DKolkata (Calcutta), India1,771 contributionsVisited the Royal Palace .in Feb 23. The Palace and grounds are built over a large area in Mandalay itself. Foreigners have to deposit their Passport to gain entrance. Also a hefty fee has to be paid. So much to see but hardly any visitors.
When King Mindon Min founded Mandalay in 1857 he ordered construction of a new Royal Palace called the Mya Nan San Kyaw. The old Royal Palace in the former capital Amarapura was dismantled, transported to Mandalay and rebuilt there.
The Mandalay Royal Palace is the last Palace built by Burmese Royals. On the large complex are dozens of buildings including audience halls, throne halls, a monastery, a watch tower, a court building, a tooth relic building and a library where the Buddhist scriptures were kept.Written 19 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Some of the sites around this area have a lot of vendors, some who keep following you to buy things which can get awkward when you're trying to check out sites and take pictures. I learned as long as you don't make eye contact or speak to them they won't follow you around. My husband and I didn't want to be rude and said hello back which had them following us around this entire site.Written 18 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I laughed and laughed at these marvelously, talented, puppeteers and their funny shows. I will definitely go back. It's a great way to end an evening after dinner or after site-seeing all day. Excellent communication via WhatsApp, everything planned in advance.
Was waiting for us when we landed @ Mandalay Airport
Following day, we went on a day tour 'outside' Mandalay. Arrive on time to our hotel, brought us to all the places we requested.
Friendly, not too 'in your face' but happy to talk whenever you want information etc.

- Paul & EdithTokyo, Japan10 contributionsOne of my favourite experiences in Myanmar was an unforgettable evening spent enjoying the colourful performances of cultural dance and music that tell the dramatic and funny traditional stories of Myanmar. The dances are performed in an atmospheric traditional style theatre. They are easy to understand, and aided by a very friendly host who briefly explains the dances in English prior to each performance. It was also an unexpected delight to see the 70 (?) year old dance master perform. The school provides an amazing opportunity by sponsoring children from rural areas to become professional dancers. It's wonderful to see young people learning traditional art forms. They have clearly trained hard and it's heart-warming to see genuine joy when they dance.Written 29 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LexHong Kong, China6 contributionsThe massage itself was really good. The masseuse seemed a bit disconnected though and it was very noisy with other clients and staff preparing so want overly relaxing. On the plus side, the traditional massage was really good. Tuk tuk easy to find afterwards to get to the hotel.Written 13 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
