Best way to explore Lviv, the old town or any part away from the center.
Very cheap ( 5 UAH ), fast and you experience the way locals move around the city.
If you need to go to or from the train station to old town and city centre you can use lines 1.9 and 10.

Diana was exceptional. I needed a driver and translator to visit a village outside of Lviv to try and find my great aunt’s home who had passed away. I went into the experience thinking I may not find much but came out of it, thanks to Diana, visiting the village and meeting so many wonderful locals who knew my aunt and shared stories, found living relatives I had no idea existed and even had a lunch with the head of the village! It was amazing and truly a life changing experience. Diana is a great driver, great translator, and made everything go better than I could have ever imagined. I will definitely be reaching out to her in the future for her help with additional trips.

At Christmastime, I was spending some time in the Truskavets area. I hired Lviv Ecotour for a day tour of some Galician historical sites.

Sophia promptly replied, patiently answered all my questions and we quickly had everything arranged.

Oleh arrived early in the morning - right on schedule.
First we headed to the Dobromyl region near the Polish border. Herburt Castle is not a well-known historical site. There are few signs but it was not difficult to find.
From the peaceful village of Ternava, we took a short walk up a little hill to the 16th century castle ruins. The views of the surrounding fields along the way are spectacular. The unspoilt ruins are interesting to explore and were easily visible without the summer undergrowth to obstruct the views. Many trees and some scrub have taken up residence in the castle.
It would be worth further exploring the hills and village or just hiking along some trails, if time allows. The area is refreshingly tranquil.

In the afternoon we were near Ivano-Frankivsk. First a visit to the Halych castle ruins, then the Halych history museum in Krylos. I did not know much about the Galician history, so Oleh suggested the visit to Krylos. The museum building is closed but the grounds are open and there are a few information boards worth reading. The kurgan and 12 century Cathedral of the Assumption were interesting.
Unfortunately the day had nearly slipped away by this time...

A lot of distance was covered that day but it was a short pleasant time. I would not hesitate to take Oleh as my guide in the future. I look forward to some Carpathian hiking and wildlife watching in the springtime.
In conclusion, I enthusiastically recommend Lviv Ecotour!

I have been travelling to Ukraine for 5 years now, since 2010 and used this company on my first trip. Roman was our driver and we hired him for 5 days to take us to our ancestral village, tour around the area and to meet our Ukrainian family. He ended up being our unofficial translator and tour guide. By the end of the trip he was one of the family. At the time Roman's business was just a small family enterprise with a couple of cars/vans but currently it has expanded to a fleet of vehicles and buses.

HIring a driver is a common method of transportation in Ukraine and you have the advantage of deciding your own itinerary. It is also still very affordable. Roman speaks English but not all the drivers do so if that is a must make sure that you request an English speaking driver.

I have never taken a public bus between cities in Ukraine, but I have taken the train and would prefer a driver any day. I have used this company on every visit to Ukraine and am totally satisfied with the service I have received.
