Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

City center, within the ancient walls of a Palace. Filled with restaurants cafés souvenirs shops, overlooking the harbour. Great place to visit lovely for a walk, a meal, or to sit and relax near the see. Highly recommended to visit and see the blend of medieval Croatia and ancient roman influences.

Walking around in the old city are very nice, there are a lot to discover and see. But it is crowded even if we was there late in the season. But it is worth a visit for sure!

For 15 euros you can purchase one ticket for the Cathedral, Crypt, Baptistery, Treasury and the Bell Tower. The Cathedral is beautiful with some beautiful gold angels and the Tabernacle above and behind the altar. The marble altar is also quite stunning. There are other beautiful sculptures and paintings in the Cathedral as well. Apparently, this is the oldest Catholic Cathedral in the world that remains in use, in its original structure, that has not undergone recent renovations. That alone makes it worth the visit.

Klis Fortress initially caught my attention because of Game of Thrones, but it was a really interesting place beyond that. There's a small museum type area in one of the rooms that details the hundreds of years of history of the fortress, which was really interesting to learn about. The only complaint I had was the lack of signage. Yes, there was a detailed history of the fortress in general, but as we walked around I wondered what specific rooms and area of the fortress were specifically for. That's information that I've been able to find easily at other castles/fortifications that I've visited. That being said though, I think this is a must-see place if you're in Split. Aside from the history, the view from the top is beautiful.

This is a large iconic bronze statue outside the Golden Gate where a number of the walking tours start. It is also a nice place to walk around with a park and a small waterfall in the wall where you can kneel down on one side and your friends/family on the other and take a few pictures through the waterfall. The statue and surrounding area are worth a quick visit.

Once the formal entrance to the emperor’s apartments, this large round room has an open roof once covered by a dome. No decoration other than around the doorway but lovely brickwork and well preserved.

Located just a few seconds walk away from the main area with the Emperors Peristil and also the cathedral (go up the steps to Vestibule rather than down into the vaults). All the things to see here are all within a few seconds walk of each other. An entrance to the substructures of Diocletians Palace is here too and the ticket office where you can buy tickets to the church etc. The Triclinium is maybe a 1 minute walk, more depending on how bad the crowds are!

It is recommended to spend a couple of minutes in the vestibule, you won't need any more than that to have a look around and take a few photos. Apparently the acoustics are incredible here and you might just be lucky enough to hear ‘a cappella’ singers performing, but we did not. We visited during the day and also at night, when it was a little quieter, but always very crowded.

You only really need half a day to explore and see all the sights of Diocletians Palace and Old Town, but we would recommend to return again on an evening to see the streets lit up and for a completely different experience (although sadly often just as crowded!)

It's one of four gates into Diocletian's Palace. Just the fact that they survived from Roman time is amazing. The wall and gate were probably full of statues in the past as there are many niches.

Nakic Palace is one of the buildings located in Narodni Square (also called Pjaca), one of the very nice squares located close to the Diocletian's Palace, just behind the Iron Gate, in Split. It is a large square full of interesting buildings, which Nakic Palace is located in the opposite side of the Diocletian's Palace . The building was built in Art Nouveau style and you can see his main facade. Ok.

We saw this church on a Netflix show and thought it was worth a visit. It cost a few euros to get in which you can’t begrudge. Originally used as a courtyard the space dates back to the 3rd century. It originally became a church in the 9th Century .... visit the church for the rest of the history lesson.
It’s signposted on the maps of the Old town and you have to go upstairs to access it.
It won't take long to visit but would still recommend - as long as you are not with a large party as then it woudl be too cramped

There are places where greatness lies not in being physically large, they are in fact small, may even look insignificant, but in fact they are symbolically large. This is the case with so-called Villa Ridulin - which inspired IMO one of the best European operettas of the past century. I noticed many places of importance in Split having a plaque with explanation - here there is nothing. No memory of the composer, not a word how this cute little building inspired him, no signpost how to find it. A pity - and missed opportunity, to get tourists looking for something more valuable than sites where trash TV series have been filmed.

Looking down from the bell tower, you can see this pentagonal tower in Fruits square.
It seems to be an old part of the fortifications that I couldn't figure out how to enter. Its still a good photo opportunity of a nice old building.

Iron Gate is one of the main gates to enter.in Diocletian's Palace (the old town) of Split and it is located just next to the clock tower in a narrow street close to Narodni Square. Really it is a nice stone gate and if you can see the clock tower, the gate and the buildings, which surrounds this area, the picture is very nice from the Narodni Square. Very beautiful sightseeing point in the old town.

Palace of Cipriano is located in the old town of Split, a city of Dalmatia Region. It is close to the Iron Gate to enter in Diocletian's Palace area and the clock tower. A very nice point, where a picture from Narodni Square with the tower, the gate and this palace us very nice, especially at night or in low season (when there are few people).

Formerly a part of the fifteenth century municipal governmental complex of which it is a sole survivor.

In 1906, this Gothic-style building with a touch of Venetian design opened as Split’s City Hall. Sometimes referred to as the Communal Palace, it is now a museum called Stara Gradska Vijećnica.

Undergoing a complete renovation, the Old City Hall has been reopened to the general public in spring 2021. The Old City Hall now serves as an exhibition gallery for various cultural events.

It is located near the Iron Gate in Narodni Trg which translates into People’s Square. It is well worth a casual visit.

An old building with the church nave being separated by small street from the bell tower.
There is a small old graveyard next to the church and beautiful seaview towards the Brac island.
