Much of Bucharest is in drab socialist realist style but the library proves that Romanians have style and culture. We drive by but did not go in.

When you go to the biggest pavilion you can enjoy some really cool looking concerts. There is enough space so it does not feel crowded.

The new palace of the National Library was open in April 2012 in a modern building started few years before 1989. After the Revolution of 1989 the building was abandonned for many years and only in 2006 it was taken the decission to finish the building. The Library inherited the the valuable collection of St Sava High School and in 1955 was moved into the nice palace of the Stock Exchange built before World War I in Classical French Style after the plans of the architect Stefan Burcus.
In 2012 atfter the Official openning in the same building was moved also the Ministry of Culture..

A great place to spend some time for reading, working, talking, relaxing, having tea. It has a nice library and several rooms depending on your taste. Sometimes there are concerts, events. You can have tea and fruits but no coffee. You pay by hour.

The man I talked to provided me with very detailed information. He was extremely helpful. It is unfortunate that the office is not open on weekends.
