With a quick ride on the funicular, a visitor is introduced to the upper city of Zagreb. The views of the area are fantastic. A smaller, medieval part of the town, one can spend hours wandering the blocks of interest. The stone gate with the shrine to the Virgin of Zagreb is a place of quiet and devotion, the museums reflect the tone of the people, and the buildings and shops are excellent. We did not have an agenda but wanted to see what we could find. Unfortunately, many of the historic buildings are still closed due to instability from the most recent earthquake. The scaffolding, however, does not impinge on the charm. The city has some steep streets so make sure to wear good shoes and eat a hearty breakfast.

This is the landmark of Zagreb, unfortunately at this moment it has to be viewed from a distance after the terrible earthquake that happened in 2020 but still is a must see.

Wasn't my idea to go here, however, I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you have some free time it is worth a visit.

Of the great cemeteries of Europe, Mirogoj is second only to Central in Vienna. This place is gargantuan, meticulously kept, and filled with wonderful history and monuments. Much more than simply black stones, the plots here are fantastic, inspiring and grand. The main building, fronting the road, is truly a site, and suffered greatly in the recent earthquakes. We wish we had more than the 2-3 hours we spent here.

The church was closed due to renovations but the architecture as seen from the outside is enough to appreciate the beauty of this Cathedral.

Zagreb is a hidden jewel of Croatia. Such a wonderful way of soaking in the ambience by walking around. No trip is complete without checking out the local market. It was fun to walk around taking in the sight of fresh produce.

Quite big central square with the crossroads of the trams. Shopping area with the main market on obe side and lots of resturants and caffees around. Famous clock on it which is the meeting place for all. The xmas market has its part here as well.
The ban jelacic statue is the central part of this square.

This is a small museum which does not appear to be handicapped accessible. After ascending the stairs, there is a small reception area which sells tickets. That allows admission to four or five galleries. Naive Art simply means that the artist was not classically trained. That does not mean they lack talent. The variety of artists are skilled at visual communication, whimsy, and design. Several pieces are truly inspirational. Some artists are skilled at reverse glass painting. Their work appears to have inner illumination. The galleries are modern, comfortable and display the works well. The museum is also air conditioned which makes the visit pleasant. My only suggestion is that they should supply more benches for people to leisurely study the work.

There are two ways of experiencing this tower, right at the top of the funicular. One is to stand at its base and quake as the noon gun goes off (scary fun) and the other is to ascend to the top, during which time you can see the gun and after which, you'll get a great view. Either way is great.

This wasn’t as organised as I thought it might have been
It like walking into your friends parents house from years ago
It’s a very eclectic mix but no context - I was expecting fun facts or even explanations of what some things were or the relevance to society at the time
Everything is interactive so it’s not a great place for young children
On the plus side if it’s quiet when you go, the 80’s arcade games are all yours! Still a Ms Pac-Man champ!!

Quick, cheap and easy way to get to the upper town.
Takes about 1 minute and leaves every 10 minutes.

Parking nearby and only a short walk away, the park was a pleasant surprise. Lovely planting of spring flowers, fountains and buildings... Well worth some time.
