- Jeremy R10 contributionsMy fiancé and I did the 4 day Inca trail trek and had an absolutely spectacular time!! Our tour guide Diego was a seasoned vet and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about the Inca’s, the trail, and the plants and animals along it. He was great about keeping pace, not making us go too fast but not having us drag behind either. The food along the trek was next level as well. Our cook George and his helper/porter Antonio would go above and beyond with meals, snacks, and tea during the trek. We were shocked how fantastic the food was, and they even did vegan/veggie upon request during booking. I would HIGHLY recommend you request Diego for your guide. Outstanding option to start at 7.00 — on the route everybody else who starts at 4 will be returning back, so you can enjoy the top basically alone (and make pictures, of course). And you can sleep in the morning as well :)

We had Walter as our guide for the 4 days. He was amazing, communicative, funny and involved. He was full of knowledge and was able to answer all questions with ease. He was incredibly passionate and informative when it came to Incan history making our site visits much more meaningful. I recommend the sacred valley tour as you get some great shots of the Andes and learn much about the Incas prior to visiting the main event. I'm glad they dragged us out of bed early as getting to Machu Picchu first thing in the morning to reduce the crowds makes for a much more enjoyable experience than going later.
The trip and transportation was very well organized and we felt like we were in good hands from start to finish. The two day Inca trail to Machu Picchu was a life changing adventure. The tour guide Rodrigo was absolutely amazing. He ensured everyone in our group had a great experience to the best of his abilities. He truly went above and beyond my expectation. The Master Chef Gregario and his assistant Walter made did a fantastic job catering and organizing our meals. The food was delicious, filling and healthy. Exactly what we needed for the hike. The driver Walter was exceptional. He drove with caution and care allowing us to sleep comfortably during our drives. Our tour guide JC was incredibly smart, and had so much knowledge on the history of Peru, plants and wildlife, and current events. There wasn't a question he couldn't answer!
Something to note, the first day is easy, the second day is very difficult (high elevation, steep uphills, etc), the third day is easy, and the four day is no hiking at all.
I highly recommend this trek! I traveled here with my girlfriend and friends. We were a group of 6. We did the short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and on the third day we did Rainbow Mountain. Action Peru Trek was great from beginning to end. Our guide Dario was there to brief us the night before our trek and answered all our questions and concerns. Not only was Dario very knowledgeable about the history of both Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain, but also shared with us the history of Peru and the many cultures, languages, and food! Dario was very good at taking care of the needs of everyone. He became like family. Sharing funny stories and learning the rich history of the Incan’s and Peruvians. Dario was patient and always keeping us on track, showing us the best places for pictures. I highly recommend for a great experience! The landscape was beautiful to observe by ATV, we passed tons of alpacas and llamas and stopped at some beautiful views for photos. Rainbow mountain was unbelievable. Our guides Lizandro and Adolfo lead us through an amazing journey through the Inca Trail, giving the group a history and meaning behind each site. They were great organizers and leaders and ensured everyone had a fantastic time and were well taken care of.
While the trail itself was difficult, it would of been impossible without the help of Roberto and his team of porters that carried all our bags and camping gear to the next campsite. And I can’t leave a review without mentioning Sergio and his exceptional cooking to give us energy along the way.
The team at Alpaca made this journey very easy to plan and accomplish. The journey is absolutely worth it. Even traveling solo, I had a great time meeting other travelers on the trail. If Machu Picchu is on your bucket list. I hike a lot and this one was definitely unique. Not very many people can claim they reached 16000 ft. I myself was a bit more tired than I expected but that was easily manageable by slowing down. My mother is a little older (mid 60s) and just opted for a horse the entire time and loved it. Definitely follow their recommendations for weather apparel. We started our trip from Cusco when it was sunny, encountered rain on part of the drive and hike, and as we approached the summit it hailed on us in freezing temperatures. Rainbow mountain was beautiful but we only got a glimpse as the clouds came rushing in. Be prepared for more subdued colors since many of the photos you see online will be photoshopped to be more vibrant and higher contrast. All in all, highly recommend. The guides during the trip were also really great and tried their best to give us the best experience during the time of the trip. There were some people who were a little less experienced on the ATV’s, so he took extra precautions and assisted them…which was exceptional!! The restaurants we ate at were authentic…family run, which I truly enjoyed!!

I was worried if I can not visit Machu Picchu. They helped me Re arrange the first date available, and rescheduled my other plans turns out very good.
