What travellers are saying
- JoanWesthill, UK25 contributionsThe size of this glacier is breathtaking taking. Saw and heard several pieces of ice calving from it. There are excellent walkways to view it from showing both faces and the top. It is also possible to take boat trip to the front of it which gives a better feeling of the immense size of it.
There are restaurants there but the price of a coffee was high. Didn’t eat there so can’t comment on the food.Written 9 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The various walk ways give you different aspects as you walk along. When we went it was raining hard and as this restricted the distant views it enlarged the cracks in the. This resulted in some fantastic calving right in front of eyes!Written 20 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - tzcanadaToronto, Canada496 contributionsWe spent 2 days in Ushuaia, and decided to take a taxi into Tierra Del Fuego National Park as we were approached by a taxi driver. He would take us to the park from the city and drive us to various highlights. This was the best decision ever. Without a car, you would need to walk from one highlight to another on gravel road with cars and buses passing you, no walking payment and nothing to see. We saved a lot of time and saw so much. At each highlight stop we were given 15 mins or so to walk around or take some pics, it was very fluid and relaxing and flexible even though recommended for 15. Some places we lingered longer and some quicker. It was brilliant. I would definitely recommend our taxi driver. He was honest, flexible, friendly and reliable. I would be happy to pass his contact information along in case anyone looking for a reliable and affordable driverWritten 11 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RYC88Centreville, VA1,352 contributionsWe were on a very comfortable catamaran, the Massimo I. There was a very nice lunch and we were able to get drinks and snacks throughout the cruise. The viewing was wonderful, seeing the penguins, sea lions, and all the sea birds and the famous Ushuaia lighthouse.Written 22 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Arthur MHamilton, Canada1,694 contributionsAs an asthmatic person that have reduced lung capacity due to pneumonia, it took me longer than the rest of my group to hike uphill, but the view at the end was fully worth it! We were sent to multiple viewpoints, but the mosquitoes were brutal at the lower sections. I also refilled water at the stream and it tastes exactly like mineral water being sold in stores!
The first 4 kilometres or so will be slightly uphill, then a flat area for 4 km, then the last two kilometres will be brutal, where the path widens, but the very the last one with the switchbacks will be extremely steep. With the amount of people hiking and the trail narrowing at the switchback portion, it helps to take a rest once every few flights of switchbacks. I asked people along the way how close we were and their estimates are much lower than the actual time I made it, so that's my two cents. Also, at the top of the switchback will be a false peak, but there will be another small hill to climb. At that point, there are no more trees so it will be slippery specially going downhill. Going that small hill at the end will lead you to the Laguna de los Tres viewpoint.
Don't forget the side trail to Laguna Sucia as well. The lake is extremely blue from the Laguna de los Tres viewpoint.Written 4 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We arranged a cab from the taxi stand near the tourist port. Price was 30,000 pesos each way per car. The trailhead is about 15 minutes from Ushuaia centre, and we arranged our pickup time with our driver. We gave ourselves 4 hours for the return trip, and it worked out perfectly for us, we had enough time for trekking each way, plus a relaxing lunch at the laguna. There are only a few places along the trail that there is cell service, so be prepared. This is a very popular hike, so if you don't get an early start you will be hiking with a lot of people, and the laguna area will fill up by mid day. The trail is muddy in many areas, so be prepared! The hike is very manageable, there is only one relatively steep section, just after the beaver dam, but after that, the only difficulty is a rocky section along the river, closer to the end. You can also do this hike using the minibuses, but the prices are per person, and the scheduled dropoff and pickup times are limited, so we chose cabs.
I don't feel it's necessary to organise a tour to do this hike. Wear good shoes, take a lunch, and water, and you're good.Written 9 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The entire journey through a beautiful old growth forest was breathtaking. The nine miles round trip hike is comparatively easy, with perhaps only a thousand feet of elevation gain. The bus ride's lake and forest scenery was equally breathtaking. There are several lovely campgrounds along the lakeshore, so we wish we had planned to camp and spend more time here.Written 10 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NA- AustraliaDandenong, Australia1,073 contributionsDecided to walk from the town - took about two hours- very worthwhile to check out the weather conditions- as well as taking more clothing than city wear. Average to difficult walk beyond the “park entrance” but have to keep eyes on track lest you loose it. Didn’t go beyond point at which path iced over as we didn’t have crampons. Probably can do without guide. But carefullyWritten 26 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

Go to a bike rental and they will give you all directions, since the road is closed for cars and tours therefore, but with bikes it's accessible. To rent a bike I can recommend "Hi Patagónia Rental Cars & bikes" with great service and helpful tips.
