Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Pirates who are EuropeanEurope583 contributionsIt’s a comfortable place to watch the latest movies.
The air conditioning can make the auditorium a bit chilly by Singaporean standards, so this may be the rare occasion when you don’t want to wear just shorts and t shirt in Singapore.
The Singaporean audience is much more respectful than those in the UK or the US, so no conversations, phones or other distractions to spoil the experience here.
It’s right by the Orchard MRT so conveniently placed.Written 1 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mark cLondon, UK120 contributionsI have been to many Arts Cinemas and this ranks just as highly as any other, my main concern was that the lack of patrons in the screening meant it had a more underground feel, their programme is very interesting with a good selection of recent films from all over the world but with an emphasis on Asian cinema which I hope will bring in more locals, this seemed like a typical Arts Cinema, we saw a very interesting Chinese film which we discussed at length afterwards, I really hope this place attracts more locals rather than the large cinema chains showing mainly American influences blockbustersWritten 6 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Abie d1 contributionThis is the most brilliant part of Changi airport in my opinion. To be able to pass the time in what would otherwise be a gruelling 10-20hour layover, watching relatively new movies in the cool quiet cinema and resting my feet at no expense. In addition to the food and shopping options (and ofcourse Jewel), this would be my most favourite among Changi’s amenities that it offers to tired travellers in transit as it gives so much peace and quiet from the crowds.
The movies are all pretty good too! So grateful to be able to make long layovers bearable here over the years of tiresome flights and travelling back and forth which is why I make Changi my airport of choice when having to book long connections.
Highly recommend!

After a hiatus of nearly 3 years, I went back to watching a movie on the big screen. As a recently qualified senior citizen, it was nice to know that they have discounts for the elderly even for their premium class cinemas that comes with entry to a lounge and free drinks. You can order food too from their sister restaurant Eagle Wings Loft.
I want to mention 3 staff who were professional, friendly and courteous:
1. Joe was patient and friendly when asked about the movie screening times and elderly discounts.
2.Casey went the extra mile to open up another entrance for us when my friend’s 85 year old mother found climbing up to the cinema challenging.
3.Clark delighted my friend and I by saying we looked too young to qualify for the elderly discount. It was a nice way to ask to see some ID!
Will be back for another movie soon since I am on a break. Hope the owner and these boys get to read this and know that we are happy with their service and their cinemas!Written 12 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The leather seats are quite comfortable though my boyfriend is complaining that he couldn't fully stretch his legs as the leg room isn't as roomy as compared to GV Gold Class. Also, we could hear others adjusting their seat during the movie. Food was actually within expectation - truffle fries was okay, Hawaiian smoked duck pizza was pretty decent. Shaw is the cheapest out of all ($25 for weekend movie) whereas GV is pricing at $39 for gold class in the weekends. You pay for what you get. I think it is quite a good deal for $25.Written 25 May 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- kgc79 contributionsMy son and I were extremely excited to catch a movie. We booked our tickets online and received an e-ticket. I also ordered a tea set special as I was feeling exhausted from a very long day. The photograph showed a nice meal served on a small table in front of the seats with a nice pot of tea, a bowl of popcorn, and a small plate of cake. I assumed it would be served inside like in other premium theatres.
Arriving an hour too early, we had to find a way to pass the time but there was nothing to do in 321 Mall where this cinema was situated. We ended up seated on a rug along with other moviegoers who were waiting for their shows to start. There were no proper waiting seats which seemed odd but it didnt bother us too much.
Ten minutes before our show we were let into the theatre. And that's where the rude awakening happened... upon reaching our seats, I realized I had booked us to be seated in front of a wall. I am 160 cm. When I sat on our seat, the offending wall covered 20% of the screen for me! The space in between the wall and the seat was about as wide as an economy airline seat so it was impossible to ignore.
I reviewed the website and our e-tickets to check if I happened to have missed a warning regarding a wall. Perhaps these are meant for very tall people... But there were no warnings. I also realized then that there would not be a nice little serving table or server bringing us tea inside the cinema. I had to pickup our tea set from the front desk.
I then went back out the cinema to the hallway to look for assistance, but there were no people to assist us. So I had to walk 5 levels down the fire exit staircase, go out the 321 mall, come back into the mall, go back up to level 3, and walk to the cinema front desk to seek out the cinema manager for assistance.
He explained as per some building code provision or another the wall met the code's standards. This upset me a lot because this seems like they were ready with an excuse as other patrons must have complained about that wall already. Rather than simply add a caveat to warn customers before they purchased the tickets, or to completely remove these seats from the inappropriate area. I wanted to refund and walk away but as I had left my teenage son in the cinema, I had no choice but to accept a change of seat to the second row of the cinema.
It was also here that my two tea sets was given to me in two plastic bags to be carried into our cinema. It was simply a soda machine tea in a normal disposable cup, small sized popcorn in a paper box, and lava cake in a paper plate. Nowhere near the picture in their website promo.
In the end, the second row seats were not bad. We didt have to crane our necks like in other cinemas. And in retrospect I guess perhaps if I used one of their free booster seats, then we would've been able to see properly. But really this was just an overall disappointing experience of not meeting expectations.Written 12 April 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MaxManilaManila, Philippines3,750 contributionsI've seen two movies in The Cathay so far and the movie experience is not bad. Compared to 2 other cinemas I've gone to, Cathay's facility is not new, as can be seen in the fabric-type upholstery of the seats. But it is clean and well maintained.
The cinemas are equipped with DLP system and the seats are laid out to have minimal obstruction from the moviegoers in front.
I learned that The Cathay has quite a history, having been built many decades ago and surviving a few renovations and upgrades.
This cinema complex is easy to access using bus or MRT (Dhoby Gaut). Various restaurants are nearby to provide quick lunch or dinner prior to your movie date.
It's always a good experience when an element of history is involved.

The lady in front of me had a feet up. It was disgusting!!! - Travel ASingapore, Singapore16 contributionsIt is the first time that I go to the cinema since the cinema reopened after the COVID lockdown. Unfortunately, most of the people were not wearing a mask while watching the movie. Eating is also allowed inside the theaters; many people were coughing and not wearing their face masks.Written 11 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
