Hong Kong's Victoria Peak is a must go destination, as there is Not much to see in that city.
The tram ride to Victoria Peak is over hyped and expensive, HK$75 one way for one adult. The ride is just a few minutes up but you will have to wait an hour in line to get on the tram. Don't waste your money, Hong Kong is an expensive city (unless you have free money to spend). I took that ride and will Not recommend to anyone wasting their money. Instead take bus No. 15 from Admiralty station, will cost you about HK$7 one way. The ride is very scenic especially after dark on the way down (sit on the left side of the top deck of the bus for the best view). You can also take the 15 bus from the Peak to the Star Ferry Terminal, then take a ferry, about HK$6/person, to cross over to Kowloon. I would recommend the ferry ride, too.
At the top, you can buy a ticket to the Sky Terrace and get on almost unobstructed view of Honk Kong and the surrounding islands but if you go to the terrace of the Peak Galleria mall (which is free), you will get almost the same view of Hong Kong.
Visit the Peak in the afternoon, not morning, around 2pm. That way, you can get to see the city both during the day and night (after sunset). Talking of sunset, best sunset to catch is from the terrace of the Galleria mall.

A quick MTR ride from Hong Kong to Lantau Island this iteration of the Magic Kingdom is sized down from Anaheim or Orlando, but a good value in comparison. Featuring some unique rides, food and Souvenirs there's easily enough to spend a day doing here. No pirates. No haunted mansion. No goofy. No pluto. A bit too much Frozen and Marvel, and the longest line was only 35 minutes.

The cable car ride went over amazing mountain scenery. We had a clear and sunny day so it didn’t take long to notice the Big Buddha from far away. In the village it was definitely the site that could not be missed. This statue is massive!! We took a lot of pictures of the town, some cows were roaming around here, the lovely walkway and other statues and of course the big Buddha! This half day outing was the highlight of our stay in Hong Kong.

For such a great way to enjoy the scenery and be on the water, I was surprised at how cheap this ride actually is. Definitely worth it.

Pandas and sharks and roller coasters and bumper cars and owls and an epic sky ride and old signs and offal oh my....no one thing is the "best of its kind" but when all combined at a fair price with easy access via MTR Ocean Park is definitely worth a half-day visit.

The cable car ride was very scenic and we really enjoyed it. We had a nice and sunny day. It was great to see the statue to the Big Buddha from afar in the cable car and then up close it was massive!

We did not have to wait long to get on because we were there mid afternoon on a Tuesday. So the place was not too busy. Also, we left a good half hour before the scheduled closing time so we only waited about 15 minutes to get on. By the time we got on it was getting closer to closing time and the line ups were really long.

I had the opportunity to revisit Nan Lian Garden in Diamond Hill, Hong Kong, 13 years after my first visit, and it remains a truly captivating experience. This Chinese classical garden, designed in the Tang dynasty style, continues to offer a peaceful retreat from the city's hustle and bustle.

Spanning 3.5 hectares, the garden is beautifully landscaped with hills, water features, and a stunning collection of Asian pine trees and rocks. The pine trees, symbolizing dignity and bravery, lend a scholarly ambiance to the surroundings, capturing the essence of Chinese culture.

The garden is easily accessible via public transportation—simply take the MTR to Diamond Hill Station and exit at C2. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and with free admission, it’s an inviting destination for all.

Adjacent to the garden, the Chi Lin Nunnery is a must-visit. The complex features beautiful lily ponds in various colors—pink, purple, white, and yellow—that add a vibrant touch to the serene surroundings, enhancing the garden's natural beauty.

I am particularly impressed with all the Buddha statues here. They look peaceful, calm, and graciously stunning. The beauty of these statues is that when you look at them, you feel peace, calmness, and serenity. Having seen many temples throughout Asia (Japan, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, etc.), I personally find the expressions of these Buddha statues in Vietnam and China to be gracious and calming, unlike those from Thailand, which I find somewhat unsettling and scary. On a side note, Westerners and American-born Asians are often accustomed to wearing shorts and sleeveless tank tops while traveling. Please note that although Hong Kong is very much influenced by British culture, Buddhist temples are places of worship, and thus, shorts, hats, and sleeveless tank tops are not allowed.

The garden also offers rock and bonsai exhibits that should not be missed. These exhibits showcase the meticulous care and artistry involved in traditional Chinese gardening practices.

Returning to Nan Lian Garden after so many years was a rewarding experience. It is a timeless sanctuary that continues to offer tranquility and beauty in the heart of Hong Kong. Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning, as I did, it's a place that leaves a lasting impression.

Our first night in Hong Kong we took a short night cruise to see the "Symphony of Lights." Our boat left the pier about 7:20 and the light show was at 8:00. We were on board the "Dreamer." It was very reasonably priced. We were promised unlimited drinks and snacks, which for us turned out to be a bowl with some mixed nuts to share and a coca-cola. Which was fine. The harbor is beautiful and the light show very fun. Very "Hong Kong" - unlike anywhere else in the world.

I come to Hong Kong many times and each time, I always try and go to Lantau Island. A tranquil escape from Hong Kong. This is a good option if you are in transit and have some time to kill, as it is close to the airport. The cable car is the best way to reach Lantau Island. Easily accessible from Tung Chung MTR. Lantau Island has a lot to offer from beaches to hiking trails, nature and more. There is also the historic Tai O fishing village which is like stepping back in time. You can get around the island by bus. If you are short on time, then I would suggest doing the highlights which is the Tian Tan Buddha statue and Po Lin Monastery. Always go early if you can, as it is quieter in the morning and you can do more.

Great way to have an authentic Chinese tram experience, which has been running for decades. You enter the team at the rear, through the turnstile. You pay when you get off, at the card reader next to the driver at the front.

The best way would be to use Octopus and the cost is just around 35p ish per trip.

We travelled from our Ibis hotel in Sheung Wan to Causeway bay, to go shopping one evening. We sat upstairs at the front, please see the attached pictures, it was a great way to travel and to see the lit up city at night!

I think you have to experience everything Hong Kong has to offer and this to me is a no brainer especially as it costs almost nothing!

I really enjoyed the energy early on a Sunday evening.  Bustling, noisy, neon lights, shopping, food and more.  This is Hong Kong.  A little rough around the edges but safe.  I was a solo female traveller.  Like stepping into the old and new.  The area seemed to smell like pee everywhere!  Not sure why, but worth a trip.

The Dragons Back hike is a wonderful way to get a little feel of nature while in Hong Kong. It is easily accessible by MTR and bus and the walk is not strenuous. Walking at a leisurely pace the hike may take you about 2 hours. At the end of the trail you can take a walk down to Big Wave Bay where you can get a cold beer and a dip in the sea. The bus stop at Big Wave Bay back to the city is about a 5 min walk from the beach. The hike has amazing views and is clean and safe. Highly recommended.

We were visiting friends in the new Kai Tak area (meaning, the new airside and mekiki malls and associated apartment buildings, such as Latitudes) when an old family friend took me to the chi Lin compound and garden adjoining it.
I don't know how I missed this site in several years of working in hong Kong but the garden is enchanting, the rock and wood temple exhibitions (i.e. the latter showing how Chinese construction with wood was and is done) are excellent, and the Buddhist temple used by and supported by the nuns, established in 1934, is tasteful and well-maintained. I think I would include this in the top 10 sites to see in the city. For sure in the top 20.
The garden is calming and charming. And free.
There is also a small bookstore and workshop. For those interested in Buddhism, several classic texts are available for free (in Chinese).
    Enjoy.

Our accommodation in Chatham Road was the ideal base to re-explore the area. So vibrant with great shopping venues, hotels, restaurants, landmarks and the myriad of small shops that are so seductive for visitors like us. Its even better at night with the colourful neon signage but the streets are more crowded, it seemed to us that most of Hong Kone dines in the many dining establishments. Wonderful interesting area, one of many in Hong Kong.
