I don’t go back because I agree 100% of how the animals live or are treated, I go because my kids love it. They love being in the car and having roaming animals come to the car looking for a snack. They love getting to feed animals such as camels, goats and donkeys carrot sticks. They love the shows. I don’t love the long lines and the prices (especially for the meager food choices available). When my kids are older, I’ll explain to them about how we should treat animals, but not at 2 & 3 years of age. - Adrian ReithaugBergen, Norway52 contributionsThis section of the wall is well worth the trip, and I strongly recommend this place in addition to Mutianyu Great Wall. Picking one over the other is nigh on impossible, as the experience differ greatly. Some of the views here are mesmerizing, and some sections of the wall are not maintained, which provides you with a slightly different experience than the more commercialized sections.
I paid 43 RMB in entrance fee. I met some other tourists who had not paid an entrance fee because they entered the wall from a different place. The guards here, however, ask for your ticket multiple times to ensure you've actually paid, so keep that in mind. Also note that there's a lot of steep stair climbing involved.
The guards and the people at the ticket office did not speak any English. It's easy to find your way around, and it's not necessary to travel with a guide or a group. The animal cages and fences could most certainly be expanded to give the animals more space.
The highlight of this safari would be the Bears, Tigers and Lions. They used to be able to roam freely in an enclosed area and you could drive your car and see them right next to you. However, this was a safety lapse, and a few incidents occurred resulting in visitor deaths. I recommend you visit especially if you are in Shunyi or staying in the Yanqi Lake area.
There is a very nice walk leading up to the dam, with some carnival games and small water activities beside the path. Once you get to the dam, there are two different boat trips and we took both which were nice. If you are short on time, I recommend taking the speed boat as it only takes 5-6 minutes and takes you all around the lake. There is also a chairlift which takes you to a viewing point, where you can see parts of the Great Wall. It is not the best place to see the Great Wall in Beijing, but still a decent view nonetheless. On the other side of the lake there are more fun activities like bungee jumping and zip line, but you need to pay separately for each.
Overall, this is a decent site to visit, especially if you are with children. But this time its already looking bit dry and most of leaves already gone.
Yet the scenery all way from Beijing city into this mountain area is refreshing and very beautiful as it was colorful (autumn changing leaves color).
There are steps already built all the way to the top of the mountain. If you are too lazy to take the steps, you also can drive the car almost to the top.
The view if really good! It is a nice place which is still in Beijing Shi yet we can take a break from crazy busy and crowded Beijing city life!\

There is fishing available and boat rides. Plenty of places to relax in nature as well. The shuangzihu restaurant offers lunch and tasty mojitos.
The wetland is accessible via Tianjiayingcun village. To get there go to Shunyi station. Then take the number 17 bus to the village. It contains a temple and a number of other old buildings all of which are worth seeing but just walking around the island and taking in the views back to Longevity Hill and buildings there is what were enjoyed most. You can get there by strolling along the pedestrian road to the south-east of Longevity Hill (check out the guy who does water calligraphy on the roadway - he was there both days we visited) or by taking a boat from one of the docks to the island itself. - iristalettaBeijing, China1,459 contributionsThis mountain is on the west side of Beijing in Mentougou District. We came here on a Sunday in mid May and the weather was super nice. We took a DiDi from Ponguoyuan for 120 rmb. Ok price when you are 4 people.
You actually drive up and up the mountain to a point where you are at 1000m over sea level. Then we had a look at the temples close by the gate before we walked to the top of the peak of Mt. Miaofeng. It was worth the hike to get to the top. The party is an actual trail in the forest not man made steps so this was a refreshing change from other spots I have visited. We spent a few hours here also had a look at the rose valley but turned out that the roses was not in bloom yet.

Its a large nature preserve just like any forested area in china. Was hoping to see some wildlife, but none were easily seen, but the hiking trail was moderate.
here are instructions to visit if doing by bus:
To allow a relaxed trip to the Songshan Nature Reserve, you are advised to plan a full day. The transportation is convenient by bus. You can take bus No. 919 or 919 (express) at Deshengmen bus stop and get off at Yanqing Nan Caiyuan stop. Then change to bus No. 920 ( this runs on only certain days) and get off at Songshan Lukou stop, which is only 5 kilometers from the entrance to the reserve. You need to take a taxi to the scenic spot. If you travel with a couple of friends, we suggest that you hire a vehicle and share the cost. In this way, the trip will be more flexible and you do not need to worry about missing the return bus. You can drive northward along the Badaling Highway and take the Kangzhuang Exit. Then turn left at a T-junction and drive in the Zhangshanying direction. Following the sign posts, you will reach the east gate of Songshan Nature Reserve. But near Beijing there are no forests. I think this scenic spot may be interesting mostrly for those people who want to see some forest. Not wild but something about it. I don't think it'll be interesting for those people who don't live in Beijing :-) But we spent a nice half a day there. May be the most interesting things are more distant, but we were not ready to climb on the hill 15 km.

It's nice and quiet, green and lush, with a serious slice of history. Originally built during the Liao and Jin Dynasties, further developed during the Ming and Qing, it has temples and, most importantly, an incense trail that used to be followed by pilgrims.
