Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Aisling FCalne, UK428 contributionsThis is a lovely area for just losing yourself wandering and looking in the lovely shops and stalls. There is an element of hassling from some of the vendors but it's easy enough to ignore. Haggling is a must as well. There's also some gorgeous architecture in the area.Written 19 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - aspoe093Pierre, SD731 contributionsI really enjoyed Coptic Cairo. It's free to get in unless you are going to visit the museum. We didn't visit the museum but visited all the churches there. Make sure that you do some research so you know what the church is about and why it's important. - Vincent C583 contributionsIt is big and nice but seems a bit older and stores are not as interesting compared to the Festival Mall. Restaurants also did not seem as appealing. But worth a visit if you have another day to roam around. We went after a tour day before dinner so it was worth visiting. Very large.Written 20 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- AMsaysThornhill, Canada5,215 contributionsHistoric Cairo, Egypt’s capital was founded in 969 BC by General Jawhar al-Siqillii and grew to absorb nearby ancient older capitals. Today modern Cairo includes many ancient sites and monuments of a complex, storied past. UNESCO has since 1979, declared this city a World Heritage Site because of all these revered sites like Al-Fustat, which includes the Nilometer on Rawdah Island, the Mosque of ‘Amr ibn al-‘As, the Hanging Church, the Ben ‘Ezra Synagogue, the Mosque of Ibn Tulun and the Citadel. Further historical sites include a few Necropolises – Fatimid, al-Imam al-Shaf’I, al-Sayyidah Nafisah and Qaytbay. All I know is, it is a very busy, noisy, dirty, smog filled, crowded, polluted and not very inviting because it takes so long to do anything worthwhile. Plan more time…..Written 28 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- MMIHariaLondon, UK224 contributionsThis is a beautiful mosque. - VALORETrenton, NJ1 contributionThis mosque is a real hidden gem, one of our favorites from our trip to Islamic Cairo. We stopped by while exploring the area, and the kids were over the moon climbing around and soaking in the unique views. It was the perfect addition to our day, along with the Islamic Cairo and Citadel Tour—like finding a great slice in the middle of a pizza tour!
We had the place almost all to ourselves, no tourists in sight, just a few locals strolling by. It felt like stumbling upon the best diner in Jersey that nobody knows about.Written 27 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FaisalJeddah, Saudi Arabia1 contributionIt's like going back in time. It starts from the ancient walls and is called mosques and palaces. I recommend the Qalawun mosques. - karen703arlington, va280 contributionsTake your time and enjoy the superb craftsmanship. It's worth every penny of the price - and the vendors do NOT inflate their prices. This is an art form which may die out after these artisans retire.Written 18 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
