Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Recommend if you want to buy small gifts to take and or interesting affordable art. Nice to avoid the khan el Khalili atmosphere and casually browse. They also hold art workshops for kids in the community.

We used Mr Tamar Mina as a guide for our family's first visit to Egypt. We had a wonderful experience with him. We are an Australian family with four children. He has excellent English and a very solid knowledge of ancient Egyptology and also modern Egypt.

We initially wanted him to take us to Giza, but he suggested we first visit the older pyramids at Saqqarah and Dahshur. This was wonderful advice. We had an excellent tour of the oldest pyramids. It was a pleasant longer drive and along the way we were able to practice our Arabic phrases with Tamar. When we arrived we had the pyramids and tombs almost to ourselves (Egypt is very quiet for tourists right now - for obvious political reasons). We enjoyed Saqqarah and Dahshur much much more than Giza. (read the Trip Advisor reviews on these other sites).

Tamar also proved essential in helping us navigate and avoid all the scam artists - who were out in full force trying to target us. He even gave us coaching in haggling and in what was a reasonable price, as well as good advice in how tipping should work.

We were so happy that we booked Mr Tamar for a second day with our family two days later. He took us for a tour of Coptic Cairo and Islamic Cairo. These were also excellent, especially Coptic Cairo.

He is very well humoured, and our children loved his company and jokes. He was very flexible and sensitive to the needs of our children. He makes suggestions without being pushy. We always felt safe and enjoyed the things we did on these tours.

It is very hard to find a reliable good local guide in Egypt. We received a recommendation for Tamar Mina from two other contacts and we would highly recommend him for others.

We stumbled upon this while out walking this evening. We were able to enjoy the gardens, building and the 19th/20th century artwork inside. It was a quiet respite from the busyness of Cairo. And the views of the Nile were lovely too.
