Located just a few blocks away from Meyongdong, Namdaemun has a more rural marketplace kind of fee to it, as it won’t have any name brands (at least not from an actual store front) shops, and many of the places will be selling their own acquired wares.

It’s a pretty big area just like Meyongdong, but again, it’s got more of a rural feeling to the area. Definitely is more marketplace than shopping area.

There are some random food stands scattered throughout, and there’s some restaurants down some of the alleys in the area. Though they weren’t really opened today, whether it was too early or perhaps because it’s New Year’s Day. So when they do open, you can shop and rest with food if need be.

I tried a couple of things here today. They were fine.

If you’re looking for more lowkey shopping experience, and also don’t need to be buying f big brand name places, then Namdaemun isn’t a terrible choice, as it was also less crowded for the most part.

I went to this famous market for food. I saw stalls selling snacks and meal, but decided to go to the small restaurant instead as I do not speak Korean at all. The restaurant has the proper menu with pics that is helpful enough. The food was good enough.
As for shops, there are varieties of items from fresh ingredients to textile. There are some shops selling souvenirs, too. I think tourists come here more for the food.

I though this was the sweetest little place. I had a really lovely time strolling up the levels with my friend. There are some cute shops, with lots of small businesses and shops that offer a diy element so that you can customise your souvenirs.

It was our first visit to Majang and we were not disappointed. We went on a Sat afternoon around 2+pm and it was not crowded. There were many shops to choose from… in the end we bought from a guy who was really smiley! He recommended a platter with different cuts and sufficient for 2 persons, he also threw in a small packet of meat as “service”. The restaurant we were brought to was ok… but they charged for an extra plate of lettuce. I’ve learnt that the restaurants are opened to about 11pm and the stalls selling the meats are opened till 8pm. Whilst not all stalls will be opened everyday… but they are not all closed on the same days of the week, so lunch and dinners there possible every day of the week.

Hongdae is interesting as a fun and affordable student ghetto shopping area. The soldiers who are 19-20 year olds mingle with university female students, and young pop street performers are common. You can take line 1 or Seoul station two stops to 4 (Blue) Samgakji station to transfer to orange line 6 Sangsu station. (Exit 1 is at the intersection or cross the street from exits 3-4 escalators there). Three or so more stops (Sangsu) takes you to Hongdae or take bus 7011 Jungju on Dongmak-ro. From there, walk downhill on Wausan-ro. Bus 16 takes you closer to the head at Ol Cafe or the glass family Karaoke building. On foot, pass Gusto Taco and Nike to reach the sign to Hongik Univ. (Right). Another right at the Rooftop Camping jazz signs beside Hongik-ro 2-Gil reveals a busy Z Gen. strip of shoe stores and eats. (On the left side uphill toward the head of the street reveals clothing/apparel bazaar—split between men’s wear on the left and Women’s clothes on the right. Across from green Troubadour is a standup K-pop figure, JK’s Magic Shop (Jungkook). There’s also a Pop Mart across from Heuk Gwa Dang bubble tea and sitting in the Hollys Coffee above street entertainment affords a view up to H&M kitty corner from Footlocker.

It could be challenging for tourists. It is more for locals. The first floor is the fresh and live seafood. The second floor you find the seafood restaurants where they serve the seafood from the market. Of course we enjoyed our meal at the market.

This place is the hottest place for seniors. They were gathering and spending time together.
And the address in tripadvisor is wrong. It is near the East Shrine, exit 3 of dongmyo station.

Our cooking class (cooKorean) brought us to the market as part of the experience. We liked it here, as you can see this is very residential area and frequented by locals (not tourists). The prices were affordable and there is a large variety of meats, vegetables and cooked food. Really wanted to try the kalguksu, but we were short of time. Next time perhaps.

There're varieties of seaweeds, dried seafood and most important of all, Korean ginseng, with better deals. Good experience overall.

Came here on the recommendation of our daughter in law, who was seeking vintage clothing. Enjoyed browsing through the shops, though our d-i-l enjoyed shopping the most! I'm sure you could find most anything you want if you search long enough!

I heard Seoul has an amazing food scene, but I don't think I truly comprehended it until I went to Gwangjang Market. The market goes on for blocks and there are dozens of food and drink vendors. There is plenty of variety, so you are bound to find something for everyone. Many of the stalls feature fresh cooked food, including house-made dumplings and hand-cut noodles. All of the food I tried was absolutely delicious! The clothing and dry goods vendors tend to close up earlier, but most of the food vendors stay open late, making this a very vibrant night market. There are a few night tours of this market offered on Viator. I recommend booking a tour as it's the best way to learn about the food. Even if you don't join a tour, I think this market is a must-do for anyone visiting Korea!

This fish market is one of big fish market in Seoul, and renovated in recent years to modern system. There was many fish shop in 1F, and could eat seafood that was bought 1F at 3F for cooking. There was many fish shops, and had various seafood for sale. The modern market was good to enjoy fish shopping.

It is an amazing place when visit this place where you can encounter many vintages stuff or clothes, antique cameras, phones, musical instruments, ceramic, drawing etc house in one building while road side stall more focus on secondhand tools, clothes, foot wear etc. The place start business around 9.30am, when early if you are here on summer holiday. Estimate time spend 2 hrs. Some walk way is quite narrow and staged with fragile stuff. It is like treasure cove for one to explore...enjoy!!!

I liked walking through this market as it is not designed for tourist. If you are adventurous, you will really see a real market with assortment of goods and food that you may not see elsewhere.

Some of it might be too much for some. I noticed a place that had a sign advertising a soup that consists of dog meat. The dish is though to be a health thing when times were very hard for Koreans after the war. I guess some still do seek it out although it is rare now in Korea.

Another specialty food is called Soon-Dae, which is a pork blood sausage with rice noodles. There is an entire alley dedicated to this dish next to the market. Look for an archway with a cartoon pig. It is similar to Colombian dish called Morcilla.

There is not much to buy in terms of clothing but you might find a bargain but may be a good place to buy spices like the traditional Korea pepper powder as I see that they grind them there on site.

This is a food stall & pub street in Jongno-3-ga. People have got together here to get cheap foods & drinks since a long ago. Feel the amazing atmosphere of average people.
    - The location is near Jongno-3-ga Station Line #5(purple).
    - For foreign tourists, they have to embrace some hygiene problem. It's not clean enough mostly. A language, too. They are not foreigner friendly.
    - Instead, they are affordable and good for the price.
