A great town that offers a mix of traditional and unique Georgian feel as well as some more touristy type of parts. Fun to walk around!

However, it's worth swinging on the rope, especially for the younger ones, and I'd advise taking the stairs downhill on the way back to feel the warmth of the magnificent fort walls enclosing the summit.

Gorgeous bridge with beautiful riverview. The park leading to the bridge is also beautiful. Local musicians and choirs play music on the bridge and in the park making it a great local experience.

Visiting Narikala Fortress in Tbilisi with family is a fascinating journey back in time, offering panoramic views, historical insights, and a bit of adventure.

    Arrival and First Impressions
You can reach Narikala by hiking up the hill or taking a scenic cable car ride from Rike Park, which kids especially enjoy. The cable car gives an impressive view of Tbilisi, with the Kura River below and the fortress looming above. This approach sets an exciting tone for the visit, and the ride provides a chance to see the city from a new perspective.

    Exploring the Fortress
The fortress itself, with parts dating back to the 4th century, is partially in ruins, but enough remains to give a sense of its grandeur and strategic importance. Walking through the ancient walls and towers gives everyone a tangible connection to Georgia's rich history.

    1. Panoramic Views: From the fortress, you have an incredible view of Tbilisi, the Kura River, the Old Town, and even the mountains beyond. This vantage point is breathtaking and makes for great family photos.

    2. St. Nicholas Church: Within the fortress is a recently rebuilt church dedicated to St. Nicholas. The interior features beautiful frescoes depicting biblical scenes and Georgian history, adding a spiritual dimension to the visit.

    3. Exploring the Ruins: Kids enjoy the sense of adventure that comes with exploring the old walls and towers. While some areas have steep steps and uneven terrain, it’s manageable for families as long as you’re careful.

    A Bit of History
Narikala has been a symbol of Tbilisi's resilience, withstanding invasions and earthquakes over the centuries. Sharing these stories of the fortress's past with the family brings the experience to life, making the ruins feel more meaningful and allowing everyone to appreciate Georgia’s history.

    Tips for Families
    1. Wear Comfortable Shoes: The terrain is rocky and uneven in places, so sturdy shoes are helpful, especially for younger visitors.

    2. Watch the Kids: Some areas have steep drops and narrow paths, so keeping a close eye on children is essential.

    3. Best Time to Visit: Early morning or late afternoon visits are ideal, especially in summer, to avoid the midday heat and enjoy softer lighting for the views.

    Overall Impression
Narikala Fortress offers families a mix of history, adventure, and stunning views. The combination of ancient ruins, cultural insights, and the thrill of exploring a historic fortress makes it a memorable experience for everyone. It’s a perfect spot for family bonding while soaking in the beauty and history of Tbilisi.

This is an avenue with beautiful buildings, similar to those seen in European cities. The facades of the building are ornate, with some carvings, etc. I asked a local what these buildings are for, was told that some are government buildings and commercial offices. They all seemed to be well-maintained.

I took my time walking around here, just enjoying the ambience.

It’s one of the best monuments in Tbilisi. I liked it more than other monuments. It’s gorgeous and has a very mysterious feel to it.
The place can be EXTREMELY windy.
I wasn’t able to stand and click photos. But I somehow managed whenever I could. There is no entry charge. I went during off season. Hardly any tourists. You can also see the Tbilisi sea nearby.

Route: i took the Red Line from Avalbari to Ghrmagele Station. From Ghrmagale walk out of station, on the same side you see a petrol station on your Right, that where Bus 360 comes. Get on the Bus 360, u can get down after Tbilisi sea stop, you will see the structure when you enter the sea road. The bus stop is called Street of Unknown Heroes on google maps. Once you get down its just 5-7 mins walk. To return come to the same Bus Stop but stand exactly opposite side, though there is no Bus shelter, but thats where 360 stops. Then get down at Ghrmagale stop and catch red line back to Avalbari.

You can also book Yandex or Bolt directly to this place.

Tips : wear extremely warm clothings, cap, hand gloves.
Carry water and food. Very limited options around.

The Gabriadze clock has a very unique design and looks very charming. That would be all if we hadn't caught it at a very good time. Every hour an angel comes out and rings the bell. I witnessed this at 11 am and heard someone say that at 12 pm there will be a longer show on the clock so I came back to view it. There was the show "Circle of Life" with marionette figures inside of the clock and it was very cute 5 minute show. There was the cafe of theatre nearby which also looked nice but didn't enter. You can watch a show inside as well but have to book tickets which I didn't so I didn't enter.

We drove up the hill with our guide George. This place is scenic and gives a good panoramic view of the city below. it has very well landscaped gardens. We also visited the restaurant there which has a seating overlooking the city below. This is the place where we had Ponchuki (Russian desert) and got hooked on to it! We packed a few to carry it back to India :)

Visiting this cathedral was very spontaneous as I was trying to go to the Mother of Georgia cable car station and I spotted the church on a hill almost inside of the river. The view from the front yard of the church is absolutely breathtaking, you feel like you are inside of the river. I also loved the icons facing the river outside as well as the icons inside, this is a must-see church for people interested in icons and church architecture.

A beautiful garden sitting behind the Mother of Georgia statue. The botanical gardens sit in an area that can best be described as a small valley with a river running through with its own waterfall. The gardens have designated walkways that are paved with a natural flow meandering from top to bottom.

Probably best to enter the garden from the top (near the Mother of Georgia) statue and walk down. A little easier than walking up.

There is a bamboo garden, Japanese garden and local flora too. For a small fee of 4 GEL for the entrance, a city sanctuary awaits.
