Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you only do one tour while in Nuku'alofa? Make it this one.

Fantastic, knowledgeable, accommodating tour guide. UNBELIEVABLE sights. All the history and beauty you can squeeze into a single day!!!

Tip: bring water, sunscreen, hat, shoes for walking the terrain, swimwear if you desire to, and money for the cave entry (20 local at the time of posting).

CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS TOUR ENOUGH! 🇦🇺 🇹🇴 ❤️

An excellent afternoon tour which was very informative and most enjoyable. The food that was made during the tour was eaten at the end of the tour and was excellent. The whole experience gave us a better understanding of the Tongan Culture and heritage.

I visited Tonga and had one day to make an island tour. I don't like groups so booked a private tour with Teta to all places of interest of the island. I had a few specific places to stop too which was no problem to add. Lovely guide Ana well explained everything in good English. Highly recommended from a world traveller!

My tour Hamala was certainly the highlight of my trip away. He was very knowledgeable and able to accommodate any requests I might have had. It was so nice to know I was in safe hands the entire time. He even took the time to take me to places which other tour guides often omit because they're too difficult or inconvenient to get to. If you're considering a tour in Tonga, you should definitely choose Hamala!

We toured the countryside looking at residential and horticulture. Our guide was wonderful describing and explaining the local way of life and identifying plants and trees. School children were coming out of school. Most boys wore the Tongan tupenu. I really liked seeing that the Tongan culture is being maintained.

Traveled to Nuku'alofa on the Pacific Aria. This was the main place I wanted to visit. Everyone talks about Fiji but this is the place to visit. Our shore tour was really well run and covered a lot of what we wanted to see. The locals in Tonga are really friendly and make you want to return for a holiday. Beautiful place to visit.

Our first time in Nuku'alofa, arrived on Pacific Adventure. We were met at the port with a clearly marked sign for our group and a VERY warm welcome. We enjoyed the various stops along the way to the cave, the fruit refreshment,Coconut and the friendly hospitality of Teta Tours. Thank you for a lovely day.

One of things we like most about Tonga is that it doesn’t seem overly concerned with tourism, it feels more like visitors need to go with the flow and accept the country as they find it. However, that doesn't mean you cannot be pleasantly surprised.

We booked our tour through email with the GM of Teta Tours which we later found out was based in Australia. We were in Tonga only for a short time and we wanted to maximise our stay by hiring a local tour guide.

We were picked up on time at 10am as agreed. We were met by Mema and introduced herself as the driver. She told us that the Tour guide is sick so she will get her daughter Taylor to "stand in" as she said speaks she better English than her. Mema's conversational skills was actually satisfactory.

We visited the Royal Palace, the Royal Tombs, the Captain Cook landing site and
eventually ending up in Anahulu Cave and the nearby beach. As we understood this mother and daughter tandem were not really professional tour guides, we praise them for the effort in answering the questions that we have. We could have visited the sites ourselves using a rented car but we think you get more value and appreciation of the culture by interacting with the locals. It will also save you time as there are lack of directional signs in the island. They also went out of their way to show us things outside of the itinerary like the famed fishing pigs.

If you compare it to the likes of Fiji where there are better tourism infrastructure and funding, you might be disappointed. But if you come in with an open mind, an understanding heart and a listening ear, we believe you might appreciate its hidden small island charm.

It was good. There is not a lot to do around the island but what we did see was informative and comprehensive. We did not go to the Land Bridge due to the road conditions but in all worth doing

Teta tours is a very well organized company, all transfers were very well provided and on perfect time. Friendly and helpful stuff, good communication. Great tour around island, you can know the culture better and try local food. Highly recommended! For sure we’ll come back one day! Thanks!
