The temple has lots of expensive offerings, to the extent they were expanding the temple when we reached. A good visit when in colombo

Such a peaceful place, it is beautifully preserved with beautiful paintings inside the main temple telling the storey of Buddha and the magnificent tree in the centre which is approximately 2500 years old

We were here on an early Saturday morning. It was quite busy but in a good way. People were walking, exercising and sunbathing as well. Our hotel, Berjaya was right beside the beach and we had an over-bridge to reach the beach from our hotel (there was a train track under the bridge). There were a few restaurants that were literally on the beach itself.

It's a fairly long beach. There were some watersports activities happening. I remember jet skiing. Although, we didn't do any.

The National Museum has now been revamped and there is much more educational and recreational activities for the kids.

several of the exhibits have been renovated and the area is very clean and neat. exhibits have light and sound action installed. there is a large art gallery area which houses old art and crafts items.

A must visit for the kids!

This is an ideal place to relax your free time. When you enter the park you can see the image of lord Buddha and the image will make your inner peace.
Even at the hot midday you never feel the sun under the shady trees of the park.

We did a quick stop here on our city tour.

There is a lot of history at the Independence Square and also a great opportunity for photos.

You don't have to spend too long here.

Idea place to meet friends or potter about deciding where to grab a bite to eat in this old Dutch East India Company hospital complex.

One of the most visited shrines in Sri Lanka, Place of many miracles, bombed by Islamic extremists, restored to its original glory. Must visit place regardless of the faith. Weekdays mid-morning is quiet and just be still you will feel the presence.

Not only was it wonderful to be houseguest in Geoffrey Bawa's Colombo home, but to be looked after by the kindred spirit of Rohana, a 'butler' who served Mr Bawa in his late years too, was absolutely wonderful. What gracious people in that house. I cannot fault anybody for anything. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to study the home and have a really good guided tour on top of it with manager Priyanka and on the side with dear Rohana. thank you!

This is a great piece of Architecture. It has many facets and statues. Well worth the visit to see together with the other nearby Hindu temples.

One of the must visit temples in Colombo. Asokaramaya Buddhist Temple is a Buddhist temple in Kalutara, Sri Lanka. It was built during the 1870s to shelter disciples of Aluthgama Sangharatne who came to hear the monk's sermons. A wealthy local resident funded the temple's construction and subsequent expansion.

Offcourse it's heaven for Cheap stuff. You should go there especially if you love street shopping be it clothes, electronics, sweets, eateries etc. You don't have to buy, just walk around and your eyes will glitter automatically seeing all the stuff.

Btw click pics at the very famous Red Mosque. It's beautiful. Have a sweet or two at Mumbai Sweets ( no idea why they named stores after Mumbai)

I've been to this temple for several times. This place can be recommended to whoever wants to meditate in the power of Gods/Goddesses. Being a Buddhist I've been meditating for nearly 5 yrs now.. And for me this plc is ideal for Metta meditation because when I'm present in this sacred plc the only thought comes to my mind is "bless you all (even the ones who have done wrong to me)"... Planning to visit this plc often and spend few hours in meditation..
