60km from Ulaanbaatar but worth to go; clean and modern and excellent museum; fantastic view from top; but be very early there afterwards it's overloaded with big groups
A unique trip up the lift to the top of the monument - walk along the horses mane to the horses head for wonderful views in all directions.

... all directions...Don't forget to visit the south end of the gate where you will enjoy the spectacular view of the snow-capped mountain on a foreground of a park where people and children pass the time and feed...
There are a few shops on site that you can pick up a few things for your home shrine, great prices for UB as well!

Genghis Khan Square Ulaanbaatar
The square has the usual sights of a central square, but what impressed me most were all the available activities: Bike rental, rollerblades, battery-driven cars for kids...
A central landmark in UB just next to the parliament and 1 minute from the opera house and the national museum.

Zaisan Memorial Ulaanbaatar
Fantastic views of UB, a bit of soviet architecture and it even makes UB look beautiful (no easy feat)! - and a break from the hustle and bustle of the city streets.
The tourist sight are basic, a picturesque and panorama view of UB city , a easy hike for some climbing activity , and for relevant believers ( and also some non-believers like me ) the peace from reflecting on th...

The shadows were fantastic, the climbs quite fun and challenging with great views overlooking of the vast Gobi desert.
Bit of a climb on the highest ones but beautiful view from the top, marvelling at the vast expanses of the Gobi.
Amarbayasgalant Monastery Selenge Province
The views are amazing and among the best you will see any where.
The monestary itself is so so but climb up to the golden Buddah for an amazing view !
Statue of Marco Polo Ulaanbaatar
I rated it so high, because I like the artwork and it was a great view for something so simple.
Manzshir Monastery Ulaanbaatar
We love the hike above the monastery ruins, the huge granite boulders, the inviting little stream, and the views.
The nearest historically sights and convinince to hiking place to Ulaanbaatar is this place.

This particular temple is a nice detour with two particularly interesting buildings to wander around and view a real life modern temple in action.
We hired a private guide and for 25. 00 he took us around to all the sights in Saishand.
Make sure to take some photos when you are at the top of the temple as the views are quite spectacular.
What is special about this site is the Buddhist statues and arts carved into the mountain and the trails that loop around the mountain.
Great view of Darkhan from this Morin Khuur-Horse Head Fiddle Hill
I saw the statue go from design to installation, so I offer a biased view of the piece.
