Arrived round 9.00 am . As o hired a driver not a guide I took myself off to explore. There is an entry fee of 20 thousand Dong , you get a map.
How hard can this be!
I wandered round for a few hours discovering some interesting places and had a delicious custard apple smoothie.
In reality it would have been better to have a guided tour. I’m sure I missed highlights my map reading isn’t great.
There is a buggy takes people about the highlights of the village . Worth considering
I had lunch there as well not enjoyable either .

Had a Grab taxi drop me off (and later pick me up) at a Pho restaurant on the main street (83 Đ. Hoàng Hoa Thám, Ngọc Hồ, Ba Đình, Hà Nội, Vietnam) then walked down a short lane to reach the wreckage in the lake.
Visited on a quiet Monday morning around 8am as the city was just waking up. Grabbed an egg and cheese crepe from a vendor outside the hospital (next to the lake). Spent about an hour walking around the lake, taking photos, watching locals gather their groceries from the morning market by the lake. - Cathy TPhoenix, AZ56 contributionsHad a great time with Aroma to learn the basics of Vietnamese cooking. First stop was the market to buy produce then to the kitchen to prepare food. Aroma was a great instructor and we all got to participate in every step of the process. Was not only educational but also lots of fun. Made banana leaf salad, spring rolls, and Bun Cha. Finished with egg coffee. Food was fantastic and she also sent us information to make the food when we return home. - Briana P1 contributionI was so happy with this class. Ended up making ten pieces and taking them all home. Very friendly, easy to understand. I very highly recommend taking a class here. Also amazing how quick the turn around to fire and glaze everything was. We did the class on Saturday and everything was ready by Wednesday. You can make a short stop over - free of charge - once you return from Ha Long Bay and ride back to Haboi. The area is o the countra side and worth visiting. You have to see the selection to believe it! My only disappointment was I didn't have more space to buy more items!! A great selection of games, many new releases
Language was a barrier since I am monolingual, but from what I got the price of admission is at least a cup of coffee. I think he said Wednesday’s was board game night

Alan is doing really the "extra mile" to make his customer happy.
The bikes (we had Honda 300l) had been perfect for this tour (8 days - around 1.200km - so be aware that you need to drive many paved road - it is not dirt off-road most of the time).
The start/end of the tour is "The Ryder Lodge Hanoi". This is an excelent hotel with very supportive nice staff. But be aware that the location is outside the old town of Hanoi in case you plan some sightseeing.
Alan supported us also in our planning beside the bike tour (-> Halong Bay).
