He is fluent in his command of English, and knowledgeable about the history of Hanoi/Vietnam.
He talks to us at length, but does so in a humorous and entertaining manner.
He is also mindful about our energy levels and safety for each activity. He was a very interactive guide and participated alongside us in the different activities to explain history/landmarks along the way (as well as get some great photos!). If you’re looking to come to Ha Long Bay and have a more private experience in a less touristy part of the bay this is it. I loved the incense village and meeting the ladies in the factory. He made sure we got to the sites before busloads of tourists arrived and took care of us. Philip was fun to talk to and we gained lots of insight into the history of Ninh Binh as well as general Vietnamese culture and social life. We also appreciated our driver taking us to all destinations safely. Toan our guide was great. He made sure all is going according to plan and took care of all our needs.
