Had a lovely early morning at the Tran Quoc Pagoda. Very peaceful place before the loads of tourists start coming in.

Nice place to visit, away from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi centre. The Pagoda lasted 2 World Wars and a piece of Hanoi history. A must see when you are in town.

A nice temple celebrating a Vietnamese general who fought the Chinese in the Middle Ages. The buildings and figurines are very fine as is the architecture. The temple is surronded by a lake and accesible via a nice bridge. One of the must sees in Hanoi.

The One Pillar Pagoda is in the Ho Chi Minh Complex. The Pagoda sits on one pillar to resemble a lotus, the symbol of purity.
After leaving the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum we saw the One Pillar Pagoda and made the short climb to look inside.

I went on a day trip to Perfume Pagoda from Hanoi. It was good to get away from the noise of Hanoi. It was a leisurely day that perhaps could have been completed a bit earlier. The boat trip down the river was nice. The actual Perfume Pagoda was drawn out more than necessary. However, it was nice to get away from the Hanoi motorbikes and cars.

We completed our four week trip to Vietnam at this gem. The entry fee is very reasonable and entitled to each of us to a little book describing the origin of the place and some of the life of the artist who created it.
We found that it should be on the itinerary of all visitors as it surpassed many of the places which are on most popular tours of the city.
Proof is that of all places visited it was here that we took the most pictures
Moreover there is the opportunity to eat and drink

Small and nice temple between the Ho-Chi-Minh mausoleum and Truc Bach lake. The entrance fee is 10.000 VND. Not a must-see, but worth a visit when you are in the area.

Peaceful oasis in a busy city. Near some grim reminders of inhumanity — “Hanoi Hilton” prison n the Police Museum

Don’t come looking for action. It’s a majestic temple with a lot of history to it. My heritage Buddhist traveling companion lit joss sticks for lost family members.

The mosque is strategically located but sadly it looks a bit rundown. Cleanliness is fair only that it need a little bit of TLC. A safe haven for travelers alighting from their early morning sleeper bus trips with nowhere to go. Try the pho outside for only rm10 a bowl :)!

Very beautiful and serene atmosphere next to the lake, however there are a lot of stalls and markets nearby so it is a little busy but you are not hassled on any way when walking round.

An optional tour during our Gate 1 tour of Vietnam, this experience was better than the other visits to temples or pagodas. The main reason was that you could go inside the temple altar areas and see the iconography and sculpture up close. Most other places we went you had to look through window slats to see anything. These particular temples were very ornate and this site is one of the very few that didn't sustain significant damage during the Vietnam war. Should only take about an hour to walk through all the buildings and appreciate the art work. Recommended.

The final tour that we took in Vietnam from Hanoi was the Perfume Pagoda tour. It is a day trip that takes you along a river with beautiful scenery to a complex of several different pagodas as well as the actual Perfume Pagoda, which is located in a cave at the top of Perfume Mountain. The tour started with a visit to the Thien Tru Pagoda, which is at the heart of the temple complex. The Thien Tru Pagoda is over 500 years old and is truly spectacular with wonderful architecture, artwork, and cultural features.

We visited during the offseason, but from January to March, during the festival season, it is extremely busy as thousands of people come to Perfume Pagoda. To enter Thien Tru Pagoda, you walk up a series of stairs and go through a typical Buddhist arch entry with three openings. The openings represent past, present, and future with the center opening being the present. The main courtyard features two large, gold lions guarding the main temple. It is an active temple and there are offerings inside of the temple and monks can be seen walking around in their orange robes.

In addition to the interesting architecture, the surrounding mountains and trees make it even more beautiful. We were some of the only people visiting during our time at Thien Tru Pagoda, but we weren’t completely alone as we did see a snake climbing one of the gates. Since it was fairly colorful, we didn’t get too close as we didn’t know if it was poisonous. We took about an hour walking around the pagoda complex and looking at all of the amazing details.

The age of the temple is quite apparent as many of the buildings and stupas are weather worn and the details have faded. The overall experience of walking the grounds of Thien Tru Pagoda is something that make this a worthwhile trip for anyone visiting Hanoi. From the golden Buddha statues, ornate decorations, unique buildings to the natural environment surrounding it, the time spent in Thien Tru Pagoda was one of our favorite memories from Vietnam.
