What travellers are saying
- NickGiGermany377 contributionsThe old part of Hanoi is the hart of the city. I personally would advise to stay in a hotel just outside of the old quarter because it is very busy and load. The streets and old architecture are wonderful to look at. We stayed for 7 days and could explore most of the the places to go. If you enjoy the exciting pace, are used to busy city’s and want the next level, then Hanoi is for you. Trying to cross a road is an experience you need to do , but be careful!! If your an experienced traveler in Asia you will be fine alone , if not use a guide!!!! Train Street will definitely blow your mind !!! Fantastic city to visit for at least 3 days.Written 17 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- jpcheshire1615Wilmslow, UK598 contributionsWe went to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels as part of an organised tour. All travel agents appear to recommend the visit as an essential element of a trip to Saigon / Ho Chi Minh City. The tunnels are an important feature of the history of the Vietnam War (or the American War as it is known here). The ingenuity and resiliance of the Vietnamese people is astonishing. However, I am not certain that the tour itself is a first rate destination. There are a lot of reconstructions, with models of guerrilla fighters. Tunnels have been recreated for tourists. There is not a huge amount of original material. The sound on some of the videos is of poor quality and there is a fair amount of propaganda in the content. I do not wish to deny the courage and suffering of the people of the time but in my opinion the tour is overrated. It was not clear to us that the site is on hour and a half's drive away from the city. It was very busy. The tour itself is too long. And the opportunity to try shooting is distasteful.Written 13 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Meg N9 contributionsOh my, what a place! Heart rendering. Thought provoking. Saddening, sickening. Can people really get worse with what we do with each other?
Each room was moving. I couldn't bare to go into the massacre room, having seen the torture and agent orange exhibits.
This is a must see for everyone, and a reminder that powerful forces such as the USA should never be allowed to control the world.
I think the Vietnamese people have been very kind in their exhibition in gently discussing the issues that other countries put them under for many many years.
Sadly, I don't think the world has learned.Written 16 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. As part of our Viking Mekong river cruise, we added on an extension so that we could travel to Ha Long Bay - we spent a glorious afternoon on the Bay in December 2024. Truly lucky to have a sunny day with temperatures in the '70's. Guide told us often it is cloudy, overcast or rainy. What was also nice was that the Bay was not crowded, there were other boats in the Bay but it was very calming and relaxing.Written 16 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brian MWhite Rock, Canada60 contributionsThere is lots to do and see in Old Town with many shops and restaurants. Very touristy with many, many tour groups. Good deals can be found if you're willing to look for them, but it is geared for the tour groups. Even though it's promoted as pedestrians only, there are many, many scooters plowing through the throngs of pedestrians, all day long, constantly beeping for people to move out of the way. Quite dangerous and aggravating. They need to stop promoting it as pedestrian only. We've been coming here for the last 5 years and stay for 2 weeks on the island, walking into old town during the day and night.Written 18 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gartclash GirlGlasgow, UK1,062 contributionsWent here on a cloudy day and wasn’t expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Loads of steps so be prepared. Loads of rest stops and benches so entirely manageable. Lots of caves with big Buddha’s. There are parts where people are not supposed to walk/ climb but they do so it’s not the safest place.
I would NOT go to the mountains if it’s been raining, its tricky in the dry will be treacherous in the wet as the marble on the stairs is slippy. Places for water etc up the top and also several shops and places to eat at the base. A worthwhile day out.,Written 23 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gfsc5Perth, Australia1,912 contributionsWe visited this amazing complex as part of a tour group. Well worth a visit but best with a guide who can give history and context. Most of the buildings still on show have been rebuilt or had major conservation work undertaken. There's a nice garden area which is well worth a visit.Written 19 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - GhettoSeriousHo Chi Minh City, Vietnam19 contributionsPros:
1. 1050kVND/ticket/pax for Cable car back and forth unlimited rides within one day from the city cross the sea to Vinpearl on Hon Tre island, included all their games (Zipline, Alpine coaster, the Sky wheel,..) is a fair price comparing to Zipline ticket of Kong Forest in Hon Ba mountain 1000kVND/ticket/pax/ 1hour ride shorter Zipline.
2. Vinwonder park is inside the Vinpearl area, to walk all the surrounding Vinpearl and inside Vinwonder park, my watch counts about 25k steps that day. Good for exercise and sightseeing all their gardens, ocean view, and of course taking a lot of amazing pictures.
3. The Light-Water-Fire show at 6:45pm is a good show to wait for. Come early 40 minutes before the start to reserve center view was worthy of my time.
Cons:
1. If your target is Zipline, Alpine coaster, ... games, be prepared that other people think the same. The waiting queue for Alpine coaster is 1.5 hours when we arrive at 10am. The Zipline is even worse, out of ticket at 11am. Arrive earlier like 8-9am might work for these games.
2. The food in restaurants in Vinpearl is average quality. Not good taste comparing to the food in Nha Trang city.Written 5 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A tranquil spot though buzzing with visitors in the heart of Hanoi, though a little out of the Old Quarter. Approximately 70,000VND per person to visit. Plenty of cafes and souvenir shopping available around the area.Written 8 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rinaldo RisenStaten Island, NY3 contributionsThe soft sand was pleasant to walk on, and the vibrant beach culture added a lively atmosphere, though it felt a bit crowded at times. We enjoyed the stunning sunsets, but the beach itself wasn’t as pristine as we expected—some areas had litter. The local beachfront cafes were convenient for snacks and drinks. Overall, it’s a decent beach for a casual visit, but don’t expect it to be a hidden paradise.Written 19 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Sue MWilliamsburg, VA1,561 contributionsAs part of our tour, we stopped here just to take pictures with the vivid red vermillion Japanese bridge in the background.
