I stayed in Chiang Mai for 5 nights. Compared to pre-pandemic levels, it was sad to see many places still closed. Having said this, each night the area became a little more active although there is still some way to go. I suggest going early as the vendors are not opening that late with fewer tourists. Some of the street food stalls were open but a majority were still closed. Quality of goods varied. I got a beautiful painting. Vendors were nice and allowed you to browse in peace. The little square opposite Starbucks had live music some nights and it was a good place to grab food and sit down. Soak up the atmosphere. Parts of the market were fully closed and isolated. Stick to the main road where it is busier. Thailand has only recently reopened to tourism. In time, the market will be fully active again and bustling with people!

The Saturday night market takes place opposite the Chiang Mai Gate. It offers a wide range of handcrafts, souvenirs, woodwork, essence oils and a large variety of foods, fruits and drinks. You can have a foot massage here too. It’s also a must visit while in Chiang Mai.

99.9% Thai shoppers. So you know you are getting the real experience shopping here. Bargaining/haggling is accepting... but do it in a friendly way. Tho there are products made in China here, you can find authentic Thai products if you know what you are looking for. Two things of note: excellent food court and the BEST sai ou (northern Thai sausage) stand..... just look for the large crowds lining up to purchase.

Definitely catering to westerners, this place is well worth the visit if for no other reason than to see a very good cover band called Tomorrow Never Late. And there is room up front for dancing although it takes a few brave souls to get up there first before the floor fills up. The food and beer are overpriced but you can easily afford it unless you are on a backpacker's budget. Lots of food choices, places to sit and eat, relatively clean and roomy bathrooms and you might even find something cool to buy at the Night Bazaar market.

The Anusarn Market offers a huge variety on gift stalls, massages, restaurants and entertainment. Muaythai boxing will be displayed with domestic and international fighters, a Cabaret show close to the boxing ring, just in case you don't enjoy seeing red sweat.
Worthwhile having a casual stroll through the market and experience some of Chiang Mai's local dishes.
Easy accessible, and lots of options ( taxi, motor bike taxi or tuk tuk) to get back to your hotel. Hard Rock Cafe just around the corner.

We were in Chiang Mai for 5 days last November for Yi Peng (Flying Lantern Festival) and Loy Krathong (Floating Lantern Festival), and we had planned a 3 day Temple circuit in the Old City.We had pin pointed the most famous ones like Wat Chedi Luang Varavihara and Wat Phra Singh which are amazing.

But how many Temples can one visit, so we decided to make a break and look for a flower market.
There is one near Chiang Mai Chian Town but it is not very big so we preferred that one.

And what a surprise: no tourists at all.
Only a few locals ... and only flowers and plants.
Practically a Botanic Garden, a very big Garden.

I have attached plenty of pictures, hoping to give you kind of a feeling of this place.

If you like flowers, orchids and gardens this is definitely a Must See in Chiang Mai.

    Now please do pay attention:
Don't be careless (as we were) and make sure your cab or Tuktuk is waiting for you there to get back to the City Center and the Old City.
If you grabbed one and let it go away (like us) instead of waiting for you, this might not be such a good idea as it will be difficult to get one back.
A few baths will be a good investment to guarantee your way back promptly with no precious time wasted waiting.
We had to walk a lot until a cab finally appeared and "agreed" to take us back to the center.

Chiang Mai Gate Market is as I am writing this Dec 2021 a smaller (relatively speaking) market for primarily food. Find your favorite stall to snack on your favorite Thai street food.

Covered ตลาด positioned around cinco minutes norte de Chiang Mai, where el suelo and las encimeras are unbroken tile making them very straightforward to clean and maintain. So great hygiene in a ตลาด which specialises in foodstuffs - mainly prepared items including แกง, stir fries and grilled dead တိရိစ္ဆာန်။
Very little ภาษาอังกฤษ labelling so you’ll need to be careful if you’re เจ/သက်သတ်လွတ်/vegano, since even a lot of the stir fries for instance have bits of dismembered animals ဟင်းသီဟင်းရွက်များအောက်မှာရှိတယ်။
One end of the covered mercado is devoted to fresh produce - ผัก y သစ်သီး - but in my experience their presence isn’t always as regular as the prepared foods vendedores. No hay asientos.

This mall is still functional, if below capacity. At the moment, the movie theatre is open, the "Tops" supermarket is open, the bank of ATMs works fine (dispenses 100-baht notes even), and the couple dozen stores that are still open have moved to the first few floors. (The upper floors and back wings are dead and only a very few restaurants are left -- mainly the food court and fast food franchises like KFC and Mister Donut.)

The post office is open, too, though not easy to find. You have to go out the back entrance. Luckily, there are usually workers you can ask at the mall entrances (ostensibly checking your temperature or having you sign in; though that is not strongly enforced at the moment.)

On the whole, I find little reason to visit here. It feels old. The clothing, electronics, and miscellaneous stores don't appeal to me. I have gone to a movie once and the supermarket a couple times, but it's primary function for me is a place to tell songthaew drivers to drop me off since it's easy to pronounce. ("Cod Swan Cow" is always understood, though I'm sure I'm mangling the Thai.)

This private gallery is stunning. The building is beautiful and the art diverse and exquisite. The artist lives next door and was in the gallery when I visited. He is friendly and well-travelled. I ended up being invited to an opening. A visit here would be easy to combine with a visit to Wat Umong which is quite unique as well.

This is a lovely shopping mall but a little difficult to reach and one wonders how long it can stay in business as it is mostly deserted for much of the day. Many of the restaurants/eateries are now closed. Maybe the relocation of the immigration office back to the airport is a major factor.

A good non touristy local market. Sai ooa (spicy sausage in spirals) rather lovely. Food, fruit and other oddments. A man optimistically selling large pictures. Atmosphere.
