A wonderful little place to visit in San Pedro. There are loads of iguanas wandering around/munching on fruit/just hanging out, and a couple of them followed us around! The iguanas all seemed happy and well cared for.

Great in town historical park of Mayan life. About an hour or two. Very well maintained. Uncovered remains and well maintained plazas.

The story of how this farm came about is really neat. We decided to do the guided medicine tour. Our guide, Harry, was very proud to share the ways of the bush Doctor. He had many fascinating personal stories as well as historical information to share for the use of natural medicine. It was a slow easy walk for about 1.5 hrs looking, smelling, tasting, and touching what Mother Nature has to offer. They had a few farm dogs that would walk with us a bit and then run off to lounge is the shade. They also have an old retired horse that roams the property. When we finished the guided medicine tour we decided to continue with a self guided botanical walk. They provide you with a map showing all the marked plants and a very detailed booklet that gives brief info of each marked item. Overall relaxing and pleasant stroll through the gardens. Beautiful property! Great way to spend a few relaxing hours.

I unexpectedly met Walter in a bar in San Ignacio. He gave me a full tour of his studio. The artwork is incredible and he is the nicest and coolest guy! I cannot recommend visiting enough :)

Started out early Saturday morning. Ate delicious tacos and stuffed fry jacks for breakfast. We got fresh soreil juice and tamarind juice, what a treat!
All the food was so inexpensive! There are several+ hot food venders. The vegetable and fruit venders go on and on! I did not see any old produce, it all looked newly harvested, and there was everything I had ever heard of and then some! Bought hand made souvenirs, NOT factory produced junk.
This was our second visit to this market.
I gave it 4 stars because there were not as many hand made items as the last time I visited. Perhaps that was due to being post holidays or still recovering from the Covid shut down? However, the San Ignacio market is a must-visit when in town, especially on Saturdays.

The archeological site of El Pilar covers some 120 acres and is at the center of the 5,000-acre El Pilar Archeological Reserve for Maya Flora and Fauna.
The temple at El Pilar is three times larger than Xunantunich and is still being excavated. El Pilar was occupied by the Mayans between circa 800 BC and 1000 AD (the large buildings started to appear from 250 BC). It is one of the greatest Classic period Mayan archeological sites in Belize, and it was likely of notable importance during the Late Classic period. The site is right on the Guatemalan border.

I've been there many times and it's always a fun and welcoming place. Great homemade wines, music entertainment on some occasions. Highly recommend!

The museum is interesting, with information about local species and some Mayan history. The most fun is the butterfly room where butterflies land on you and we learned about their breeding project.

My friend and I rented a car (was supposed to be AWD, but we suspect it was just a rear wheel). We drove several miles out of town, followed signs along the way, and ended up having to hike the road for about 45 min each way because the road was washed out. The pine forest surprised us as we expected to be in the jungle. The view from the vista was beautiful. Recommend making sure you have a 4WD car before venturing there though!

We booked our transfers from the airport to Belize City, Placencia, San Ignacio, the ferries with Shuttle by William. We were 3 girls traveling together: William helped us coordinate and made sure we were ok, was super patient and gave us great info for our trips. The drivers Steve and Lucy were knowledgable, safe and made us feel right home. Service was reliable, I would highly recommend.
I am 5'7 and I was comfortable in the van (my knees were not crushed in the seat in front of me).
Really appreciated they offered nice stops as extra when available, which also made us visit more little places we would not have seen otherwise. Highly recommend.

After our visit to the Mayan ruins of Caracol, we drove to las Cuevas. I had contacted them a few weeks before and asked them if it was possible to stay at the station. Yes, it was possible, so we decided to stay there for 3 nights. We had bought our own food, which you can cook in the kitchen yourself. But the ladies in the kitchen were very friendly and prepared our meals. The station caters mainly for local and international students, but it is possible to go there as an independant traveller. It's in the middle of the rainforest and the camp itself is an open area in the forest. It's a great place for birdwatching and yoy can make shorter walks to a lookout tower, Mayan Ruins or a longer walk to the river. We like the place and saw many bird species.
You need a 4WD to get to the station. 99,9% of the track is a good grave road, but there is 1 spot of 50 meter long, which is impassable in a sedan car.
